I've been fighting to get a money-making motorcycle project finished so haven't done much to the Jeep. Got the bike 98% done this weekend so with a week to go I'll push forward. Sorry I have no photos to share. The chassis is assembled and painted, the engine is nearly together and painted, the body is in primer.

Every single time I build a kit I tell myself I'm going to paint the body first because it takes the most care and effort. Every single time I wind up doing it last.

The battle of the decals is mostly fought to a draw. I still have to go back and see if I can press out some of the wrinkles with hot water, since Solvaset hasn't helped.

How do I scale this down to 1/25 scale and print it out?

I've made some custom license plates and I figured out that they should be a half inch wide and a quarter inch tall. So, I took your image and fixed it up a little for printing.

Now, it looks big but it should be sized to print at a half inch wide, with high DPI. But some programs don't like to print at the right DPI for some reason.

If that doesn't work, try printing this tiny version. For both versions, make sure it's set to print at actual size and not zoomed-in or "size to fit" which some programs default to.

It might come out a little blurry, but hopefully still get the effect across.

I'm about ready to light this Impala on fire and forget I ever started it.

I scan the picture, then resize it in Word and print. It works well most of the time.

Continuing to fight the 60 Impala.

Engine is at least coming along okay.

I also chromed the stock valve covers and the air cleaner lid, just like Gramps' real one.

I got the exhaust looking marginally okay and installed in the chassis.

I also decided to shortcut my way around a lot of the sub assembly parts by spray painting them.

Don't ask how the paint is going on the body. I berking hate white!

I got the 348 finished and installed.

I left the air cleaner removable to show off the tri-power.

This is the single most hateful model I have built in years.

I could drive a truck through the gaps between every part. The chassis is assembled now, though it may need another round of gap filling super glue.

Just thought I would share a tech tip that I found to be brilliant last night.

On youtube you can find some videos that were produced by Tamiya, that feature some awesome model builders putting kits together. Very detailed. It is in japanese unfortunately, but the tips are easily picked up on.

Anyhow, one guy was using some aftermarket decals. To get them to lay down in the cracks and conform he dipped a q-tip in water and then heated it up on the side of his soldering iron then used it to compress and smooth the decal. I tried it a little bit last night with a dash decal. AMAZING.

Here is a link to one of the videos. There are others. I just put them on in the background with the volume off and have learned a number of cool things.
