Finished up the interior for the most part last night. Just got to go over some of the details again on the fire bottle and the corners of the roll bar etc to clean them up.
That shifter decal was by the far the smallest I have ever installed so far haha. Quite tricky to get on there as it wanted to stick to the tweezers better than the knob, but I got it on there.
Zack
That came out nice.
I'm in. Just gotta pic a project. Possibly my Beemax Volvo 240, although last night I thought it would be cool to do a made-up Carrera Panamericana car.

Also, does anyone here make custom decals? I would love a custom license plate and some La Carerra Panamericana door number plates.

Decals are on! Pic taken just after the Micro-sol, so they got some bubbles and stuff but they looked all good this morning!
I wanted to put windows in before decals for obvious reasons, so I am probably not going to go with spray clear and try the ol' floor polish again.
Zack
Hot damn that looks great!

That's looking great, Zack!!!
I've finally decided to try to finish this long-stalled Revell Reynard project before I start anything else (Ha, we'll see about that!). I'm going to use some decals by Speedline instead of the kit decals. The Speedline decals don't include anything for the driver's suit and helmet, so I think I'll have The Stig sit in for him. He'll just have to spend the night in the Purple Cleaner bucket, first.

I'm not on the same level as y'all but I made some progress today. Tried to find paints local but no luck. I'll need to order some.
My pictures may actually be worse than my build. Anyway progress:
Interior together and stolen race seat installed. Not sure why it's gold but it is. Didnt put the back seats in because race car.
I cut the grill out and put a piece of bar across in front of the radiator. I'll have to paint that once I get some paints. I didn't think leaving the grille made sense.
Tub with the race seat and a fire extinguisher.
I'll get paint this week and order some wheels and tires. I think I'll see if I can make a roll bar from the scraps I have, it doesn't need to be perfect as I'm going for a 1970s local track vibe.
Very open to questions, comments and suggestions!

I have these decals from the Torino kit. I'm going to use the 1's and 3's, and maybe one of the names, but I don't need the whole thing. Lemme know if any of this fits with your Mustang idea.
Thanks, I'll let you know if I can use them soon
If the offer is still on the table I'd love to have the decals you aren't using.

Looking pretty good to me! A couple things that greatly helped me with adding details: Gel pens....gold, silver and black. Super easy to add details with them and look great. I also use my Tamiya black panel liner ALL THE TIME. It just adds those little shadows and wear and tear looks to just about everything.

Thanks. I will check those out.
I have a stack of old decals I got from no-idea-where. I mean, they are old. In the past I've tried spraying clear over the sheet before using but didn't have much success. Are they at all useful or should I just toss them out along with the stack of old instruction sheets I have?
In reply to solfly :
Sure thing! Send me a PM so I can get an address to send them to you.
In reply to ddavidv :
I've used this stuff on older decals. It's supposed to preserve and re-seal them so they don't disintegrate in the water. I haven't tried it on anything *really* old so I don't know how foolproof it is, but it's probably worth a try. Worst thing that can happen is they just fall apart anyway, but best case is you get to use them after all.

Getting pics of real car tomorrow. Will post with model.

I have used the product that slowbird linked above on the decals from the 2 Heller F1 kits I linked in the earlier threads. I bought the kits in the fall of 1978. I worked well on them, and they looked really poor.
I think I've got the stance fairly close to where I want it, so now I can move on to actually building the thing.

Any advice on opening up the wheel arches? Dremel?
In reply to solfly :
I use a sanding drum in a dremel
This is Don and his sister's Sting Ray. He became the owner of it after she died about 5 years ago. He restored it (to his liking) and added the vanity plate in honor of her. He takes it to the grocery store or for creemees (Vermont soft serve ice cream). It's a small block 350 with 4 speed. Nothing special, except to him. I will build a scale version and present it to him for helping me with all my vehicle builds from putting the V8 in Jean Clyde Damn Van, to cleaning the carbs on my KZ400. He's just an awesome guy.
It's a 64. I have a 63 from the AMT 5 Corvette convertible set that will be used for this build. Hard part is going to be finding 64 stock wheel covers in 1/25 scale.

Really coarse sandpaper wrapped around something cylindrical, like a flashlight or a small pill bottle. If I have a lot of material to remove I get impatient and use the hobby knife, and then smooth out the inevitable screwups with the sandpaper tube.
In reply to vwcorvette (Forum Supporter) :
The AMT 64 Annual promo seems to have them and that's about it. Maybe a resin caster?
Added a few more pieces and an engine to the McLaren...

Pretty much wrapped this one up. Much happier with my floor polish finish this time!
Back before we had these contests I built a model of my Ford Lightning from the Round2 reissue.
