The tape works fine for the belts themselves, but the buckles and adjusters are missing from most kits too. I use aftermarket stuff a lot, but in a racing car kit that should not be neccessary. For street cars the Nitto Datsun 2000 has perfect little latches and ends on the chrome tree, and some thin soft vinyl. They did that 35 years ago. Tamiya? Nope.
Progress for today. This will be done early, so maybe the Avanti will get some work too. Fuel return and vent hoses, tach cable and right angle box from yesterday.
The rest of the instrument cluster work this morning. Oil pressure pipe is silver wire scrap, wire harness is a little thread. gonna stop there. Black wire tach cable disappears in some photos.

I have both of those kits you mentioned earlier, including the hubcaps in the picture. Contact me at speedrcr53@gmail.com and let's get this worked out.
Ninja edit: also have the inside wheel halves that go with the hubcap and the correct(non-louvered) hood.
Got the parts yesterday. Perfect fit on the hood. And the wheel covers will be left alone to match the "patina" of the 1:1 ones. Guess I better get going on this now.
I love getting car parts in a puffy envelop!

That one is turning out ridiculously good!

Volvo 240 Turbo, Aoshima by Beemax:
Parts pile:
Comes with 2 full sets of decals, which look very nice:
And some neat "camber'ed" tires for that low down touring car stance:
I was originally planning to build it as a track car, not a full on race replica. Now I think I will mix and match the decals to make a sort of best-of fantasy livery. I like the less busy look of the Intertec but there are some cool bits from the Macau version I want to include. I really wish I would've sprung for the photo-etched detail set when I bought it, but I cheaped out. Bad choice. Still a really neat kit though.

Thanks for the pics. The cambered tires are super cool.
So late last night I thought I had the Lotus finished except for the decals, see photos below. Alas it isn't true. Whilest re-reading my Setright "The Grand Prix Car 1954-1966" I realized that the yellow stripes I don't want appeared before the fuel injection the model clearly has, durn...Model has ZF transaxle, injection, and two plane crank shaft. That makes it early 1963, period. Also means it needs the screen basket over the stacks, which the kit does with a clear part. I have a variety of fine screen, so that gets made better, as the photos always show the screen a little rumpled, not perfectly squared like the kit part. Stripes tomorrow too.
Nice!
What year did they start putting seat belts in open wheel cars? I know for a while they thought it may be better to be thrown out then be burned.
Prime time:
Flat white primer as base for red. Just like the C5 I did.

I think the 1.5 litre rules that were new in 1961 required a lap belt. They were the first F1 rule set to require a roll bar. F.Jr. two years earlier was the first FIA class to require a roll bar. Here in the states we were requiring roll bars in all road racing by 1958, and lap belts somewhat earlier. One of the reasons I am re-reading my Setright is to see if he mentions it.

Some progress on my 1998 Subaru WRC.
I am going for a "post race" trophy ceremony look, the body will be relatively clean but underneath you can tell it has done battle.
I completely ruined my back and have been home from work, but can only manage 5-10 minute bursts before needing to get flat. But it is coming along.
In reply to ZackM :
I love the post event rally car look. It needs a little dust in the interior too. Your rear wire harness detail look great too.

Yeah I plan on muddying up the footwells a little when I am done putting it together as well.

I HATE DECALS!:
Pretty sure I could've gotten better results with paint for the sections on the lower rockers between the bumpers wheelwells.
Gold wheels?
Ha! The grill is on upseide down...

Just some final touches to do on the Monté... hood pins and grille. Decals went pretty good for being 30 years old! More progress to come on the Petty Grand Prix...
In reply to Saron81 :
Monte looks great. I am impressed with how well the white decals look. See my next posts for comparison...
So the Lotus 25 is complete. I had to do the British GP 1963 livery, as that is the only one the kit can be completely accurate. The decals I praised when building the instrument panel are not so great on the body. The yellow is not nearly opaque enough. They did install easily though. Upgrade list, I added a real screen airbox, all 4 brake soft lines, plug wires, instrument harness / cables, and fuel vent/return lines.
The Lotus came out good! The air box is a cool touch.
current GP progress: Fixed issue on the nose where the white went all the way to the tip.. should have a blue strip as it is now.
