Great looking cars guys. I am going to push to try and have my WRC car done by the end of the weekend!

That Lotus came out great! The Goodwrench car, too.

I'm still waffling over whether or not I should add more decals. I kind of want something for the hood, but I'll probably have to custom print it myself. And my dang fancy air cleaner hasn't arrived yet.

The bar has well and truly been raised gentlemen. The builds here are fantastic! Love the Volvo, Monte, and Lotus.

Progress on the WRC car. Got my airbrush going and was pleased with my results on the flat grey dash.

Interior is done, just gotta clear the decals and assemble in the next couple days!

I second that! Some great work!

I finally had some time to work on the Reynard. I'm using some old decals from Speedline. They look great on the paper, but the red and blue swooshes on the nose and the red outer wing panel decals fit like they're intended for a completely different kit. I'm just bullying them into place with heat and Solvaset, so I can get the model finished and off of my Shelf of Doom. That's Headless Stig in the cockpit.

Added more pieces to the front. But there is no way I can finish this in a week. I work and have too many other things to do. I will keep building and posting here.

Y'know what? I'm calling this one done. The fancy air cleaner finally showed up and I plopped it on with superglue. And I could add more decals, but sometimes simpler is better. Thus, I present: The Lucky #13. Look for it at a short track near you.

Dang, it's already got some dust on it. Maybe tomorrow I'll take some pictures that suck less.

Alright I had to get a few shots before some weathering....

Miata progress after a week or so of ignoring it.

The big question is how to handle color under the hood. The subject car is an original white car painted amateurly British racing green. We didn't bother doing anything under the hood because race car. But since it's an ugly unloved beater, it's not really white there either.

I haven't added any paint to the inner fenders or firewall on the kit yet, so its bare white plastic with the underside flat black. I'm considering masking it off and shooting it with a light coat of grey primer just to dirty it up, then dab away at whatever details I feel like addressing.

I sanded the body down and figured I was not too far away from more primer and eventual paint. I test fit the bumpers and hood, all was great. Then I took the hood off and dropped it, and discovered one corner of it got clipped somehow. Might have yanked it too hard removing it, or if it chipped off when it hit the floor, but damage is done. I have an old version of this Miata kit on hand, but its hood is missing. So I'm either going to have to try and address this somehow (suggestions?) or keep my fingers crossed that it won't be that noticeable when it's finished in dark green.

On that discouraging note, I figured I'd call it a night. With the exception of the hood, progress is coming along.

Looking good! I would paint the engine bay white and then go with either tamya brown wash or make your own with enamel and thinner. Just rub it all over the cracks and dirty it up!

Any progress is good progress!

Looks like the hinge broke off and took a chunk with it. I'd probably cut the other hinge off (for symmetry) and then use some scrap plastic (maybe the hinge I just removed, if it's big enough) and a knife to fashion a roughly triangular shape to glue in place. A little extra glue smeared around the edges to hopefully fill in the crack good enough, and then wait a day or so and try sanding it smooth. Might not get it perfect, but good enough.

Lost my handbrake somehow. Fasioned one out of brass tube!

With a little paint she fits right in!

If you don't want to try to salvage the hinge, you can just build that corner up with gel super glue and sand it to shape.

I guess you could say the fender broke again... the splitter was crooked, and I tried to pull it off to straighten it, but the frame rail ends broke off, which snapped off the entire front end. It's crazy how brittle this kit is for some reason. I've built lots of old kits and have never encountered this before. It's fought me the entire build. I'll super glue it back together, and maybe finish it...  but I guess I'll concentrate on the Monte now. Sucks as I was really liking the paint job, lol.

I'm going to again suggest a "wrecked" build...this car seems to be begging for such treatment! laugh

I would go with "front body torn off, car repaired hastily in the garage and sent back out to finish the race" look.

My car is completed. I even took a small crack at a diorama for it.

Weathering came out pretty well. I used heavily diluted testors flat brown with some flat white mixed in. Blown through the air brush at low psi.

Zach's rally car builds are pushing me towards one of the Lancia kits I have on the shelf un-started. Hasegawa 037 with a photo etch detail up kit I bought about 10 years ago, or maybe the Delta Integrale with the defective decal sheet.

Likewise, I want to build one of the WRC Focus kits out there. As a youth, I built up an Escort Cosworth, then later on I decided it needed an engine (curbside kit) so I cut the hood open (poorly) and installed the largest V8 engine I could find (a 427), along with basically converting it to RWD for simplicity.

Work continues on a glacial pace on Grandpa's Impala. Being a mild custom I had to remove some of the trim, and the strips on the front fenders are a bear.

I chiseled them off and then glopped on some Tamiya filler.

Then I primed the body with white primer and began sanding.

Meanwhile I built the 348 W-motor big block and started painting it.

I also built the interior pan, seats, and chassis and started priming and painting as appropriate.

I'm practically kidless for the next seven days, so hopefully I can catch back up.
