I must have been on too late - missed it. For the series.... Do I have this right:

Thursdays 9p EST 2.5 liter, pre 1975 PI 425 or less

Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Silverstone, Suzuka, Barcelona, N-ring, and LeMans Old Mulsanne Straight Version

How many laps/events per? 10?

Points? Same as last?

Since we have recruited a small number of GRM staffers to our ranks. It would be kinda awesome if we could convince them to carve out a small corner of the website for organizing games.

Something like:

But less lame

Right now there's enough "core business" to handle that I'm not ready to promise anything. I do like the idea, though. If some eager participant is good with HTML, I can find a place to host it.

oldtin has the rules correct, but I think we may run timed events this time, maybe a 45 minute timed event. with Nurburgring and LeMans at either an hour or an hour, fifteen.

Anybody want to vote on it?

By the way, I was on with Maroon92 and Fried Green Corrado for a minute last night but got skunked when the kids got home. I'll try again soon (or after their bedtime...)

A Lotus Elan with a PI of 425 is a handful, but I think with some setup time it could be a contender.

Your Elan needs a little more straight line speed. You definitely had my 2000GT in the esses, but I wast freightlining you when it got straight.

As an aside, I need to work on my starts.

I like the elan and 914. The elan seemed to need a more delicate/judicious trigger finger. Tonight I'll give the 240 and 2000gt a go. I tend to load up on suspension and brakes first, then start adding power or working out where to compromise. Then after hours of testing, tuning and practicing I will get promptly stomped by racerfink, mr. webmaster when he can join, and others.

FWIW I'd like a mix of set laps and timed. Just noticed the June sprints are 13 laps of Road America or around the 30 minute mark for c class cars

A different gear ratio would help. It's pretty punchy down low, but was very tricky as I applied power coming off the corners and ran out of gear too early. I'm not giving up on it yet.

Did you see me roll it? I clipped the corner before the esses and yard-saled the car all the way back down the hill.

I love digital racing.

I'd vote for a mix of laps and timed events, too. Stuff in the 30-45 minute range is appealing. Maybe even a few "double header" 20 minute races on shorter tracks would be cool. Run one, then invert the grid for the next one, if that's doable.

And, yeah, now's not a good time to ask for website stuff. We're not doing a ton of changes that folks will notice (well, there's a few major freshenings, but overall functionality should be about the same). Most of the stuff we're doing is behind the scenes cleanup type stuff. Adapting sections for future expansion, stuff like that. Tedious work, but not high on the "wow" meter.

Someone should probably just do a blogspot page or some other free blog-type site for now.

I'll probably be on later tonight trying to make some money.

OK, this will be my last pic (maybe ). I don't know what to me so long to get a Xbox and this game though after less than a week my wife is ready to chuck it out a window.

I spent 3 hours messing around with the set-up today and think it may be ready to hang. '69 Z, 425pi, turbo'd with a top speed of 130.5. Sticks like glue in the corners and I have yet to roll it (unlike the 510)

Catch everybody tomorrow night.

Only problem with the timed events is, they end when the timer ends, not after everybody crosses the finish line after the timer ends...

OK, I'm going to miss the first week - no time to get together a car and I haven't even sent a friend request to our friendly organizer yet. That and I'm waiting on a "new" wheel to show up, returned the other one already. I could do it with the basic controller but I really, really suck at that.

ROFL! Didn't realize last night that I'd dropped into y'all experimenting with the new formula. Sorry, everyone! Time to go build..

As far as the length, what about doing what real sanctioning bodies do? Don't think number of laps, think distance. I kind of did that with my lobbies in Forza 2, and people seemed to like it. I kept it at roughly ten miles, so that the noobs wouldn't quit. That'd be 4 laps at Road Atlanta, 3 laps at Sebring (full), 8 laps at Tsukuba, etc. Of course, as people who participate in the sport for real, our races should be longer than 10mi. Been a long time since I read the SCCA GCR, but (again) IIRC the minimum for Regional race was about 35mi, and a National was 45.

So are we starting tomorrow then?

What is everyone bringing?

Shelby 2000GT with big ol' BBS RKs, and a big ol turbo. I think my top speed was in the mid 150s...

When I can keep the thing pointed in the right direction, I think it can turn some decent lap times.

I've got my 911 RS which I might run but I don't think it is anything to brag about.

The only other car I've built is a 240Z and I love it. I made the mistake of spending my money on the Aston Martin LMP1 race car and burned a cool 1.5 million.

JGPasterjak and I are on right now tuning our cars, getting him up to speed for tomorrow night!

The Porsche is 2.7 Litres though.

My little GTA only has 125hp! I don't think it could reach 150mph on a 5 mile stretch of downhill road with a tailwind. But it can almost get to the apex before I have to brake!

In reply to racerfink:

I realized that earlier when someone posted it. Even with the .2L advantage I don't think it will be a dominant car.

I've got my Z repainted and ready to rock though!

One other question I had was about tires...Are we all going to agree to run Sports or Slicks? I've built my cars with Sport tires, so as to not take away too many points for other stuff.

Tom, if you want someone to write HTML for a section on the site, i may be your man if you are still looking.

I work 2-10 CST, so the 9 eastern doesn't work for me. Ill be on around midnight if anyone wants to roll a "midnight club race." We can do the same or different car setups. Any ideas?

Had a few races with friedgreencorrado last night - The alfa and 914 were a good match. Alfa gets the nod for speed - le Mans was like a leisurely drive in the country since the alfa drove off and left me. Tighter courses with sweepers like road atlanta were the porsche's advantage. Places like Road America and Sebring were back and forth. Seems like there was a good percentage of time where we were within a sec or two of each other if not right on the other's bumper.
