Sucks... I wish I could fix it for you guys. It is more fun when you are there. It gets lonely with only a few cars on track.

@concealer and cam... I will take the blame for the wreck in the hairpin. I got a bs penalty in turn 1 for "ramming" so I had a bit of the red mist going. I was closing in you both fast and hadn't got to my brake point yet, so I dove to the inside... I guess concealer had the same idea and came over a nanosecond after I made my move. I clipped his rear and we both slide into cam. I made sure both of you were pointed the right direction and going before I continued, not that it is any consolation. Sorry.

Wow, Dave had that one locked up in SBC. I was following him at a distance for a number of laps when he decided to inspect the grass on turn 5 (the one at the top of the slight hill, it can be tricky). He was just parked there, so I went past. Not sure why he couldn't catch up to me (maybe damage) because he was pulling away from me before that.

Brad, who claims his Mini is no good, finished well (3rd or 4th?). Sometime just making it around the track is what counts.

That sucked that F40 got booted. It was looking like we were going to have quite a dual. I was right on his butt and trying to set up a pass when he vanished. I suspect he saw what I was doing and pulled the cord I did notice his back end was wagging all over the place when I was following him, I don't know if that was him or the connection.

MX5 was a bit tricky. I tried to keep my lead but Apex got by me on T4, which pushed me a bit into the inside grass on 5, which put me on the outside grass, which caused me to slide into the track and turn 6, right into the side of 10mpsi. Damaged me and 10 (him worse them me apparently). Sorry about that.

After that I traded the lead with Apex for a while until I got a bit lazy and got a corner cut penalty and he got away. Brad was catching me towards the end. I picked it up, and apparently he did also but a bit too much and spun.

The connection thing really sucks. We did have a huge field for SBC, I wonder if that had an effect. SBC seemed a lot smaller, maybe because a lot got kicked. I am suspicious some of the connection issues may have to do with us being spread around the country.

My connection issue lies solely with ATT and their shady business practices. Ergo: Installing where they shouldn't have and lying about the signal in order to get their commission on the initial setup.

I'm too far from the box, and on a bad day, my internet will literally cut out 50 times in a day, which also puts out all my cable tv. Takes anywhere from 45 seconds to 5 minutes to regain signal for even the slightest signal.

I've had it, i'll be calling them and raising hell until i get some form of compensation.

In reply to aircooled:

I failed to save the replay for either race, but I am pretty sure when I saw you sliding in the grass if I would've checked up instead of stayed in it I could have avoided you. I wasn't damaged too badly - had a fairly strong pull to the right. I cannot manage to drive these things with damage. The premium cars like the MX5 are a bit easier for me I think because of the drivers view I can see the wheel and manage to go in a straight line better than I can in a standard car, but I still drove into a wall a handful of turns later. I guess I need to practice with a damaged car to get better at it.

I made it into 2nd briefly in the SBC race, but let Dave by since he had the inside in one of the turns going into a tunnel and I didn't want to get hit. I also knew I couldn't keep him behind me anyway since I would never make it down the straight even if I stayed ahead till then.

No loss of connection here for the duration of the evening. Though the same could not be said for keeping the cars out of pit lane for repairs. :( There were times I locked up the wheels on the Miata going into the turns and lost it completely. Hopefully, I can get some practice in for Daytona and the Road Course next week. The hard part will be transitioning from the oval to the infield road section without messing it up since it looks like the lines on the road are not like what it is in real life. See Rolex 24 at Daytona footage.

There might be hope after all! I just joined the forum yesterday and was excited about finding out about the GT5 racing series. I just bought a PS3 a few weeks ago and the only game I'm interested in GT5. I've never raced on-line before but would like to try it. So, last night I bought an MX5, set it up according to my understanding of the rules, took all the assists off except AT, and tried it out @ Grand Valley. After the first lap or two I decided that it was impossible to drive the sucker with no TC or ABS on crappy tires.
But I kept on trying anyway. After a while my lap times began to come down a little although there was a white haze hanging over the track from my tire smoke.

I then went to see what 74 or earlier cars I had available and began to try them out to see if any of them had any possibilities. Well maybe. After reading these posts I realize that its not just me that feels like I'm walking on egg shells. I guess the worst that could happen is that I get banned from racing again and booted from the forum for taking the whole field out on turn one of the first lap.

Let's see . . . and there's a race coming up on snow?????????????????????????????

How do I find out what the ltd. exceptions are for the SBC class?

With the MX5, Sports Medium tires are allowed.

No weight reduction, no engine mods. Everything else is open. You'll be able to get it to stick quite well with the Sports Mediums, i promise.

In the Admin spreadsheet there is a tab which shows all allowed cars. Just use the class filter and select SBC.

We won't ban you unless you are malicious. Incidents happen, I've been the victim and cause the last 2 weeks. If you are really struggling for control just hang back at the start and let everyone clear. Also, I an sure that there will be practice sessions you can jump in to get some practice.

Hahahaha... whatever. I'll share it and you can take it for a spin. If you aren't completely frustrated with it after a lap I'll be impressed. A tip for those who want to give it a go, it is geared for the torque curve, so that means keep the revs between 4-6k. Shift at 6k.

92CelicaHalfTrac wrote: I don't think you actually hit me. I had lost the room by then.

Nope, I hit you. This was on lap 1, turn 6 (?). I'll post the pictures of my crime later today. Then the next lap, I was coming up to pass you when you disconnected in turn 1. That was odd, your car came across the track sideways and I had to dodge it right as you dropped.

aircooled wrote: Brad was catching me towards the end. I picked it up, and apparently he did also but a bit too much and spun.

Yea, I was catching you up about 1-1.5 seconds a lap and laps where running out. So I was trying to brake as late as I dared into T1 and T6 hoping to pressure you into making a small mistake. Sadly what caused my spin wasn't the braking, I just got on the throttle too hard too soon and lost the rear end coming out of T1. Up to that point I was running consistent 2:20.1s, about a second faster than my qualifying lap. Meh... I haven't driven to my cars potential yet. I think it would have been a much different race if I hadn't been assigned a BS penalty (I am pretty sure apex came down onto me, but ever so I've had far harder impacts without penalty... I wish it would have just let us race it out).

I just found out that I am going to be on a business trip next week (Kansas City), I'm going to need someone to host. aircooled?

Oh, must not have been that hard, i don't really remember that one.

And yeah, weird things happen when you drop. When my internet dropped, it showed you and Cam flying past me into turn 1 at about 120mph and just annihilating the wall.

I should be able to host next week.

I am not looking forward to that first kinked turn at Daytona for SBC, but I figure I will have to handle it like the 1st turn this last track, brake before the kink.

Graefin10 wrote: .....After the first lap or two I decided that it was impossible to drive the sucker with no TC or ABS on crappy tires......

The key to SBC is to just do everything VERY smooth. Gas, brake, turning... everything is a slow transition. Just drive in slow motion and speed up from there.

I don't know if all of you noticed when that VIPERSNAKEPILLOWBITER (or whatever) guy showed up before the MX5 race. He apparently was unimpressed leaving with "noobs". I would have loved it if he would have stayed. I have a feeling he would have gotten blown away by the pimp patrol.

Now that the race is over and I am going to miss next week, I'll share my tip. I never let off the gas for turns 1 and 2. At about the 80M mark (after the kink, approaching the 180) I would come off to about 25% throttle and add about 95% brake. As I entered the corner I would come off the brake and add throttle. This kept my car fairly stable. Depending on my angle of attack I would get a small amount of oversteer, but nothing that couldn't be overcome with more throttle and opposite lock. I was usually topping out 3rd gear by the corner exit and then in 5th by turns 3-4-5.

Give it a try, it shaves a lot of time off the lap.

You must be talking about MX5 right? There is no way I could make turn 2 in the Europa with out braking into 1. Hell, even making turn 1 would be hard... well I might make it past the turn, but I would be seeing it again rather quickly, then again, then again.

In MX5 I would not brake for 1, just blast through to 2 and decide how late to brake. If I am feeling aggressive, I will brake late, give at bit of turn in while braking and let it slide into the turn and get back on the gas to keep the slide reasonable. This is actually what killed me. I hit the brakes too early and ended up oversteering into the grass (it was probably my tires getting old) and getting a nice 10 second penalty. There must be a little banking in turn 2 because I noticed that even if I held the wheel straight it would start oversteering if I braked late into the corner.

My MX5 is setup with a lot of brake oversteer. At the right speeds I can do some really nice turn in, drift, recoveries. I have to be careful doing this too much though, it is a bit tough on tires. I need to be careful with high speed braking though, but that is no different then the Europa, so I am used to it.

Oh, BTW, I was wrong about 150 down the straight in SBC, it was more like 135, 137 tops when I started braking for 1.

You'll need to log in to post.
