So I'm going to be in the mean green machine, and apex., you get to show us how a Cosmo SHOULD be set up and driven. Gotta be interesting for all.
Everyone please consider this. It looks like there won't be many of us in these races on a very long course. What would you think about lowering the penalties and damage for this one? If we get out cars bent @ T7 it's a very long pull to get them back to the pits.
I have no idea why the Cosmo took off like it did at the start. I think I had just the right amount of throttle in and it didn't bog as much as usual. I just ran a steady race from that point on. During practice I actually ran a couple of 1:12s on that track. It's very hard to be consistent with this car . . . for mear mortals that is.
I got damage I think T5 in MX5 and the car pulled to the left. I wasn't drunk, although with all the weaving it looked like it. I think it was lap 3 that apex spun and the car didn't look ghosted to me. I had to all but stop. A few laps later someone else spun and I all but stopped, loosing positions each time. Then I think concealer and I collided @ T8, I think it is, which gave me too much left pull to continue so I pitted immediately and came out 41sec. behind the leader. With new tires I was able to reel in the leader to 34 sec. but I was burning off the tires coming out of the hairpins (I ran min. wing) so my lap times began to go up a little. I was of course the last finisher still running.
Last night was fun for me even though I didn't do that great. I had decided that I was going to go for it this time instead of trying to hold back fearing I would damage someone's car. I still tried to allow room for other cars but there are times that it's very hard to tell where the other cars are. It was good to be a little more competitive for a change.

graefin, I gifted the Marcos to you at lunch.
I don't think my ramming penalty was really all that bad....I did turn into Apex leaving him no where to go but into me. On the other hand, I'm not sure he would've made the corner without ending up in the grass with cold tires if it wasn't for me stopping him - he was coming in pretty hot. Penalty still seems a bit random to me.
I also watched the kerfuffle I caused in T8 of the MX5 race. It was pretty much like I thought. Sorry to graefin and CAM, I messed up twice in one corner just like I thought.

Damage to light would be great for the ring. Keep penalties on full blast eventhough they don't always make sense.
Light damage should work. There are only a few places on that course that you could "cheat" by bouncing off the walls, but I don't think it will help you much.
Oh, and I did a little bit of practice in the Fireblade. You do not want to spin out in that thing, 1st gear is a "beotch". Takes about 20 seconds to get into the power band from a stop. I am not sure if 3rd gear is even useful in that thing, its pretty much 1st and 2nd all the way to 130.
I am looking forward to conquering that Celica... and watching the Europa doing one of those tight pirouette spins.
In reply to aircooled: I just came from maxing out my Caterham and put Sport tires on it. Did I screw up??? I thought from previous posts that the mods were going to be allowed.
T.J., I got the Marcos and immediately went back to Tsukuba to see what you were up against there. Got on the binders on L1 and pushed into the sand at the first turn. L2&3 in the 1:15s and then two 1:14s. I made a couple of tweaks and turned the same time. I think I can learn to use it though. What's weird is to go from total oversteer to total understeer. This car and the Mini don't stand a chance unless they are far in front before the final straight IMO. IIRC the Cosmo would do around 140 @ Daytona.
Apex, neither of us has sent a friend request yet. I just did. If you'll let me know when you accept it I'll get the Cosmo on the way to you.
If you're bored now, i want to see back to back 110A vs. 110B times!!!
In reply to 92CelicaHalfTrac:
I'll take the one you sent to Tsukuba and see how close I can get to a 1:12 on CM tires.

graefin, the reason I picked that car for the series was because it was easy to drive. Just don't pull a lap at Tsukuba faster than my best....or if you do please don't tell me about it.
I managed to get into the high 1:12's, but only about 3 times in lots and lots of laps. I almost got there in the closing laps of the race...I think I got a 1:13.08 something on lap 29 or 30.

Yep, you were much faster than I was... my best lap was a 1.13.5 in practice and a 1.13.618 in the race. I spent most of the race around 1.14.0-1.14.6, then my tires went and I was in the high 16s.
In reply to T.J.:
Understood I think it would take a lot of practice for me to get into the 1:12s.
92 Celica, I just put SS tires on both Cosmos and added +5 TC & ABS. I ran 1:05.7 with mine and 1:05.5 with yours. I forgot to add braking power to mine though. The A is a little lighter and has a little less hp than the B. Why did you think it would be better? BTW, that .7 better than my best ever MX5 lap. That was with only 5 laps each.
I didn't really mess around trying to get max power out of the A yet, so you may be able to get more power out of it as well.
Also, that motor is still breaking in, i rebuilt it right before i gifted it to you, so it should gain another 10hp.
I thought the A would be faster than the B, because i used the B for some of the races early in the game, and i ALWAYS got smoked by the computer in the "A" car.
I didn't touch the brakes on the A yet, and i don't think i tuned the suspension at all.
Anyways, i'm messing around with the Europa right now. I'm sure Aircooled is a driving hero and all, but this Europa is stupid fast. After i "fixed" his suspension settings that were un-usable for me and the way i use the controller, it makes a nice Drift Machine and i'm literally 3 seconds faster around Tsukuba in it than i am in my Celica.
Specs are weird, though... i don't think it's any lighter than the Celica, makes 1hp more, and about 15tq less. It's way fast off the line, for sure, though.
I'm turning low 1:13s right now @ Tsukuba, couldn't get out of the 1:16s in the Smellica.
Good luck Aircooled, i think i made out like a bandit on this one.
I still haven't heard from Apex. Could I gift the Cosmo to one of you and then you gift it to him? I just want him to have it when he's ready to give it a go.
I ran 4 laps with the Marcos @ Nurb. tonight and it sure is hard not to have an off. Even worse with the Caterham. But just got started so I should improve. I was mostly working on gearing tonight. The Marcos need 2 more gears and the Cat. needs a rear wing . . . bad.
We're running 3 laps for each race, right? Deciding on tires is going to be tricky too.
Did any of you get together to practice tonight?
Ok, Ben and I really need to have a drift competition............
Sorry, had a craptastic day at the DMV and at work..
will fire up and get the trading done tonight

Got the Elan. Did three laps at Tsukuba and my best was only a 1:16. First and 2nd laps I was in the sand at T1. Did 2 laps at the ring. Barely under 10 minutes. I'll play with the settings and see if there is a setup I like better. When you said you softened things up I didn't think you meant that much Apex.
Counting my borrowed Elan I now have 3 of them in my garage. If that were only my real garage.

haha oh....i'll do it I should actually be saying that to you about the GT-R because that's all it wants to do

I like the Elan at least on the Ring. I wouldn't be able to do well without a lot of practice on a tight course like Tsukuba. Now I just have to drive the ring enough to figure it out a little better. There are a couple places where I like to crash every lap in any car. Got to at least learn where those are before I'm in the guard rail and that will help a lot. I'm surprised that the Elan isn't faster on the long straight - I guess I need to work on my 5th gear ratio some more.
Nick doesn't want to share his GT-R so I've only practiced with Caterham at the Ring. It is awfully sensitive to bumps! Wow. I've tuned to 248hp, and it is lightning fast, but I probably had 10 offs and 2 spins in my first practice lap. One was a dramatic spin in the middle of the carousel... I'm not sure how I did it, but it was a snap spin. Should be an interesting ROC.
The Elise 111R likes to spin in the middle of the carousel, too. Just in case you were wondering.
Apex, I just made a big mistake. I found your name on my friends list a few minutes ago and while trying to send the Cosmo to you I got a very disstracting phone call. I have an uncle that lives a block away and his care giver called to let me know that he asked me to come to his house. I didn't get refocused on what I was doing and sent you my Caterham instead of the Cosmo. When I went back to send the Cosmo, I got a message saying I had sent my daily limit and couldn't send it. Too much going on today. Sorry man, I'm usually up @ midnight I'll see if I can send it then. Anyway, I'll get it to you ASAP. I'm having to feel my way through using the online features and don't have good enough instincts I'm afraid.
Hold my Caterham for ransom if you like.

@Brad: I am am currently 0 for 4 at making it around the Carousel without spinning in the Caterham. I thought it was something wrong with my setup. If I even touch the gas at all I go right around. In the Elan I did the same spin on my out lap, and then on my timed lap I stayed off the colored banked portion and went wider and had no problems with spinning, but I'm sure it is not the fastest way through there.
I love my Caterham at Nurb haha I learned for that corner you have to go wide and throw it in the banked part and about half way left off the gas then get back on and if I do it correctly I usually just drift out of it somewhat.
Sorry Brad, my internet hates GT5 so I had a hiccup gifting the GT-R, you have it now so feel free to drift on at Nurb and Brad, your Mini is the E36M3!! I never had so much fun with understeer, even my Mini isn't that fun (I have mine setup wrong, I tweaked your settings a bit)
Ben, your doing it wrong
So we're running full mods on the Fireblade?
