I'll check my RH Brad. I'm pretty sure I lowered mine a bit, but I don't think it is all the way down. I may need to soften my springs up a bit too to make it a little more forgiving.

Come around a corner at full tilt and there is someone in your line going 30 mph and you are doing 100+. It is easy enough to go around them and not hit them, but I wold frequently wreck because of trying to avoid them. There are some curbs that the Fireblade (at least with my settings) cannot touch or disaster strikes. Maybe I need to redo the AMG Driving Academy to learn how to pass slower cars there without wrecking.
That's a problem for me, too. When on a controller, it's hard to get a small enough input to go around someone without ending up on the grass and then into a wall.

I "think" the way this works is that first off the qualifying order is set by who is on the track first, then is set by who sets the best fractional times (marked sections of the track).
I am not sure though, who qualifies first, if you set a lap time, and someone else is setting faster fractional times but have not completed a lap yet.
I am not sure I agree with you on it not making a difference though. Especially in the Fireblade race, passing is likely to be very difficult. This track is horrible for passing. Of course there is always the "wait for a mistake" version of passing.

Or draft pass at the long straight.

I haven't used a controller since GT4 first came out. I've been using wheels for everything... Dirt, Collin McRae, GTR, GTL, GTR2, GT5:P and now GT5... so umm... I don't know?
I will say that I prefer my ancient Momo wheel to the DFGT, but the DFGT is just much easier to navigate on the PS3.
Jeez Brad, well no E36M3!! I would take a picture of the controller and my behind on the floor, but yeah....didn't have to no wonder you can control my GT-R better lol but seriously I am very proud of myself for how well I handle that thing, and others with a controller I'm good with my fingers....especially my middle and ring...I heard that's a good thing........
I don't know what you guys are sayin....i'm having no trouble racing at the Ring

That's a GRM worthy setup... TV was $400 on a gizmodo daily deal, the surround sound system was a gift and is about 10 years old, that is a walmart special card table, target special tv stand and a DFGT...
Hell the PS3 was probably the most expensive thing in the picture.
I rock out with a 42" Panny plasma that i scored off craigslist for $350 two years ago, the normal PS3 controller, and my butt on a cushy couch. Usually with a beer.
Oh. Maybe that's the problem. Drunk driving on the Ring?
When asked about Father's Day recently I mentioned that it would be nice to have a new TV. "Where would you put it? Our Bedroom?", she asked.
"No, in the spare bedroom", I answered.
"What for?"
"To use as a dedicated playstation setup back there."
I didn't mention that I'd also be buying a wheel, but I did mention that we'd have to buy a new Blu Ray player for the real TV. It didn't go over too well, but I have convinced her to green light my landscaping project that I've been planning.
I just play with my controller kicked back in a recliner for now.
I haven't gotten under an 8 minute lap yet in the Fireblade - my best so far has been 8:16 I think and that was with a few mistakes. I know it is possible to get in the 7's if a person really pushed it and knew the course like the back of their hand. Anyone get into the 7's and want to admit it? I think I can get close, but there are corners where I also know I am losing time.
I would venture to guess Chimp, Nick and/or aircooled can get to about 7:45 in a (my) fireblade. I've only run 3ish laps, but am at a 8:06. I figure I could do better with practice but my work keeps getting in the way.
I managed an 8:04 and a 9:09 in SBC. I usually run 8:10-8:14 assuming no offs/penalties. I've only managed to do that once for 3 consecutive laps though. Personally it's a matter of the ability to "get in a zone", i.e. put all else out of my mind and concentrate for that long. Also a matter of whether or not my hands go to sleep. I've tried to force myself to stay on course with them that way. Think about it, we'll be running 10 laps pretty much back to back if we do two for qual. and 3 for the races. I can see where a wheel would be a great plus factor for tomorrow night. My local Wally World doesn't even stock them. Small town, small W/mart.
Apex., we haven't heard from you lately. I want to hear about that 8:45 you did in the Cosmo.
Maybe I'll have a breakthrough tonight and figure out how to put together a competitive lap. Not sure where I am losing that much time, but I figured I was off the pace.
In reply to T.J.: Like I said, I was "in the zone" when I managed to do those laps. I wish I could summon that state of mind at will. I remember being able to do that when I was autocrossing in my late teens & 20s. When I hit those lap times I realized that several of our regulars could get the fireblades into the 7s and the SBCs into the 8s.
Did you say you don't use MT? I didn't think I could do it but I could see that everyone was way faster than I was when I first started with the GRM series and learning to use the triggers (thanks Nick) and MT has helped lower my lap times a lot. This is especially true with both of the cars slated for tomorrow night because they both can overpower the tires in the lower gears and with MT you can control that better. You know, if the Marcos had a 7 speed gearbox it would be able to get into the 8s. I've experimented with gearing more than anything else trying to find the best possible compromise. The torque graff on this car is really funny. It increases to a sharp point and then plummets. You can hear it, it's not nec. to use the tach.
GT5 has accurately simulated an automatic transmission... they irritate me as much in the game as they do in real life.
@Graefin: I'm low 8s and 9s respectively. I don't think anyone will hit those times in the race though. First lap will be traffic, and then the tires will likely be worn enough to slow down.
In reply to BradLTL:
I agree.
I think I'm through setting up and practicing. I tried having a go early this morning with coffee and was all over the place. It litterally takes hrs. for my brain to wake up in the morning. It was funny and frustrating at the same time. I tried again @ 10:00a.m. with much better success. I wanted to try one more alteration to the fireblade and Marcos' gearing.
The biggest problem I have now is with high speed power on oversteer with the fireblade. I'm @ max.front & 1 rear swaybars. It's tricky to keep the power on all the way through the two long "straights". You can get it right and get a great lap time, get it wrong and crash, or coast briefly through the kinks and loose time. I'm probably not the only one to have one of those very long slides which eventually ends up in the guard rail. Anyone want to divulge a secret for dialing that out.
Holy crap enormous update.
Anything my PS says will take 20 minutes to download(actually took a little over 10) is a fairly big change. I'm kinda wondering what it is.
Mine took about 6 minutes to download and is currently installing. Heads up if you were planning on waiting 5 minutes before race time to fire up the PS3.
Its not what most people hoped for, but there are some tweaks and fixes....

I was running online races last night at the Ring, and someone was using the Ring "Type V."
I would suggest that variant of the track if everyone is ok with it. It'll prevent the inevitable huge crash at the first turns in the "normal" variant with a standing start.
It's got part of the F1 road course or whatever it was at the beginning and end of it. It's about 2.5 miles longer, though.
You'll need to log in to post.
