Actually they were talking about this on the news yesterday evening and apparently donations are up by damn near 1000% for ALS reasearch since they started doing these Ice bucket challenges

Except that the ice bucket challenge has raised close to $14mm for ALS so far. So if the first person just donated $100 and didn't do the "challenge," it would not have made as much of a difference after all.

So they'll have a large influx of money for about a month until the fad dies off, everyone forgets about ALS, and people move onto the Worm Eating Challenge to raise awareness for Victims of Tragic Woodchipper Incidents (VTWI).

exactly, thats how these things work then either someone really famous will be diagnosed with ALS or someone will come up with the next new gimmick challenge to renew the influx of donations

So? They are still raising a crap-ton of money, even if it is for a short period. Better than nothing.

I don't get it, so what is your preference, that nobody ever does fun stuff for charity?

At least it's summer. Felt good when I did it last night.

Leno too. Good car people company for sure. :)

Agreed.
Look, I'm the most cynical guy in the world, but personally I'm pleased that for once people are taking to the internet to post videos of themselves doing something fun and silly that just may rub off on the world in a positive way. That's way better than the usia practice of people posting videos of themselves throwing flaming garbage cans through plate glass windows. Of course, plenty are still posting those, too, so fans of that type of thing aren't being completely abandoned.
And as a follow up on my video, FYI, it finally came back out.
My store got challenged today by another store in the shopping center. Told all the mechanics to bring a change of clothes tomorrow
My nephew did it and was about to name me, but his dad was telling him to name off his other uncle. But my sister may have called me on it, so...

Perfect. Would you rather that the next viral thing be planking again?
A colleague recently was diagnosed with ALS. His two young boys will never know that Dad was a really smart guy, and forever remember him as jelly. Not that there aren't other nasty diseases, but this one sucks too, and raising money for researching cures cannot be a bad thing.
So Lesley, other than the white-T-Shirt-contest remarks... have you done this yet? Are you going to do it? I sure hope so!
