Happy Day!!! (Star Wars Nerd Content)

My 4-yo just asked to watch Star Wars (Episode IV: A New Hope) with no prompting. So far as I know he's never seen it before, although he has seen the various paraphernalia around the house (including the movie posters for all three of the original trilogy hanging in my study).

The best part is that when the theme music started, my 19-mo old said "dar wahr," which translates as "Star Wars," how he figured that out I have no idea.

They're both sitting here transfixed watching it. They seem a bit distressed (simultaneous "uh-ohs") as R2D2 just got zapped by the Jawas.

That's awesome, Billy. My youngest daughter, 16, still suggests watching (any one of the) Star Wars (six-ogy?) when we're scrolling through the DVD rack.

Interesting how younger fans will take Star wars. To us older fans, it was about Luke trying to save his father, but when viewed in its entirety, its about Vader's rise, fall, and redemption. We were ruined because Lucas started in the middle.

No, they were ruined because it's no longer a trilogy to them, whereas the olders know that it was really only three films...

I look forward to the day I can do that.

Just the other day my three year old son asked if a tractor-trialer that passed us on the road could change into a robot! Then he said "Lets Roll!". I know I didn't teach him that, but I was quite proud, and massivly amused at the same time.

I've warped my nephew into liking Thundercats, Voltron, GI Joe and Transformers.

We should all be kept away from children. We are turning them into geeks that will be beat up in school.

That is the truth. From my 2yr old son saying "Vipers loud" with a big smile on his face for a week after I took him to Mid Ohio for a PCA track day to my almost 7yr old checking all of the Star Wars books, and the one F1 book, out of the library at school life is good.

I could not believe it either. It is from the 80s, talks about terminology and such but on a very superfical level.

My sister has teaching my sons show tunes. If they're going to get beat up for something, it might as well be Star Wars.

Or, I guess it would be a good way of teaching them the meaning...

i'm going to introduce my cousin's kids (4, 8, 10) to the wonderful world of MST3K one of these days. i have a whole bunch of them on VHS tapes. maybe i might have to watch Star Wars with them, too. i already got them hooked on Weird Al videos on Youtube.

My 2 year old is obsessed to the point that I had to get the lightsaber app on my phone so I could have lightsaber fights with him

I can't imagine that Episodes 1-3 will ever be allowed in my house. I may soften with age, but probably not.

I may also have confused my older son with my rant about how Han shot first.

not my problem- they are my cousin's kids and i'm the "cool uncle". i don't have to deal with them after they get all wound up... and they already have problems sitting still for more than 5 minutes unless they are watching either Dora, Monster jam, or Motocross- and even then, they use the dvr to skip past all the commercials and go crazy if it's live and they can't fast forward..
