As the title says,

is the $129 battery impact from harbor freight any good, or do I need to spend more for one that is useful?

Actually, I ended up going with one from Rigid that uses the same batteries as my drill and 1/4 impact.

I can't help you with the harbor freight one, but I have the One+ system from Ryobi. Same battery runs everything from my drill to the 1/2" impact to my weedeater. It works well and is convient not to have to drag out my air hose. I use it a lot but it will never match the power of a good air impact which I have when I need it.

Not the exact model, but sweet tool review of a Harbor Freight cordless impact from way up here in Canuckistan. (Caution for kiddies or co-workers in earshot: some language)

I have one.  I even picked up an extra battery.  It works good, but for some reason, one of the batteries has gone bad (maybe because it doesn't stay on the charger).  The battery is good for at least a full tire swap and the tool is well made.

if you want a spare battery you will need that part number and special order it.  I am close to a distribution center so I can just walk in and and pick one up, otherwise you will likely have to are it shipped (maybe shipped to a store for free?)
