I know (for some unknown reason) DeMuro is not popular with many people, but you guys have got to love his new car.

He's (in my opinion) a funny journo who has a pretty good you tube channel and is known for buying weired ass cars, running for a while and reporting on them before selling them. He used to work for Jalopnik, now Autotrader for writen stuff. check out his old Range Rover warranty vid. Hilarious.
And in my opinion, he's as funny as that one nerdy guy who tries really hard to be funny.
I can never make it all the way through his videos. I think the word I'm looking for is "cringeworthy".

Semi-interesting story:
From about 2002 to 2010, I was an administrator at a very large forum dedicated to the Gran Turismo series and other automotive topics. Doug DeMuro got his start there as a geeky adolescent. He was always entertaining, but he made up this berking huuuuuge fabricated backstory about having been involved in a road rage incident involving an NYC garbage truck that deliberately rammed him, and how he was badly injured and won a hefty settlement. He then proceeded to fabricate a long series of stories about buying and selling a bunch of interesting and iconic cars.
Eventually he got caught out on it. Turns out he's really just a rich white kid from the Near South somewhere whose parents are lawyers of some type.
As far as the guy, he writes like he's trying to be Dave Barry, and not many people are talented enough to pull that off, so he comes across (to me) as a judgmental jerk who makes all decisions based on kneejerk interweb opinion.
I am mildly interested in his stuff, though. His thing on the Carmax warranty was interesting. That little car things looks cool.
I much prefer Dougs words to his videos. Though admittedly, since he moved to AutoTrader I really haven't been keeping up past twitter.
Everything to do with the Rover and CarMax though, has been pretty much golden. To the point CarMax has made changes to their warranty policy with certain unreliable vehicles.
I remember reading his rant about how German "engineering" was the greatest myth ever foisted off on the buying public. I thought it was pretty funny.
Never heard of him. Based on the reviews on this page, won't look up his body of work and probably wouldn't care for him if we ever meet in person.
And that car is a hideous travesty of design. Kill it with napalm!

Ah ha! I've long since wondered if you were indeed the same Duke. I used to be active over there, too, especially leading up to and after GT4's release. I can't say I remember Doug, though.
Had not heard of him until this thread.
Watched part of a video.
EvanR and I agree on his comedic stylings.
I do not like his car.

That would be me. DeMuro was maybe 14 when he started, pretending to be a few years older. He claimed to have invested his settlement into a oil field, and bought a bunch of cars (serially, like he actually does now) that everyone would envy. What caught him out was "his" Cayenne Turbo S, back when the Cayenne was first released. Turns out a woman on the forum actually had one and he didn't know that the automatic launches in 2nd in normal driving, but she did. The whole thing unraveled from there.
That's an awfully specific thread to have your web of lies unravelled with.
What I'm taking from it is, this guy managed to build being a forum bullE36 M3 artist into a successful writing career. I'd buy him a beer for that.
He's amusing and his cars are interesting enough to watch. It's far, far better than most car-related things on you tube, or most cable channels.
