George Jones passed away this morning.
I saw "No Show" Jones at the Delaware State Fair in, ohhh, about 1990. He could still sing, and he was in a good mood. I'm glad I got the opportunity.
Just heard on WNCW. They've been playing some of his music. They'll probably play more tonight on the Cosmic American Music Show.
George Jones. The one man whose concerts you couldn't get thrown out of for being too drunk and rowdy.

He's hard to surpass, that's for sure.
Used to watch him on TNN with my mom as a kid. Have some of his vinyl playing and I'll drink some white lightning on my lawnmower this afternoon.
He was touring this year and I looked forward to seeing him in a few months. Also if you haven't read his autobiography, you need to. "I lived to tell it all"
Another act added to the Big Reunion Show. Johnny, Waylon, Possum - it's getting to be one hell of a bill up there, and that's not even getting started on their side men.
I saw Merle and Chuck Berry last year. You gotta see the legends while you can.

No we're not. There is a new crop that just isn't as famous. See Justin Townes Earle, Reckless Kelly, Old Crow Medicine Show, Shooter Jennings...

I more meant of the older crowd. I do certainly love OCMS and have albums from everyone in that list except Justin. If you don't listen to Corb Lund or Woodbox Gang. I bet you know the same artists I do so I'm not going to ramble. I have hope for the future, but I'm sad to see the people my father showed me passing on - that's all.

sorry ... they're just not the same ....
I guess now he has a good excuse.
Gonna miss him. His music wasn't my style but damn he could cause a ruckus.

To each his own, but I agree with MTN- we're living in a great age for quality country, and although I'll miss George, I'll say it: they're a E36 M3 ton better than George ever was. See also: Randy Rogers, Hayes Carll, Jason Boland, Hank III, Stoney LaRue, Dierks Bentley, Micky and the Motorcars, Aaron Watson, Two Dollar Pistols, Two Cow Garage, Slobberbone, Kevin Fowler... and thats just the (reasonably) young ones.

I've actually Hank III is the only one of those I've ever heard of
it's just not the same music ... it's (my opinion ... not trying to start an argument) more like pop from the 80's to me ....
Faron Young , Hank Snow, Ernest Tubbs, Webb Pierce, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, David Allen Coe, Loretta, Tammy Wynette, .. I could go on and on ..
it might not be the music you like, but it is what I like
Oh man, I hated to hear this
My GJ story;
Growing up we traveled all around to bluegrass festivals. Dad converted am old bread truck into a RV. We where headed to some show in Kentucky when I was around four or five. Mom and Dad where all excited because George Jones was going to be there. At that time he was still a huge country act and it was a big deal for him to come to a festival. All my siblings and even cousins where coming. I had a little outfit that I always wore to the shows. A plastic cowboy hat, little vinyl vest, cowboy boots and a little plastic guitar. George finally got there about an hour and a half after he was supposed to go on stage. I was at the RV with my sister and when I heard him start to sing I ran out to where Mom and Dad where sitting as he was just finishing his first song. He saw me running out there and stopped the band and pointed me out to the crowd. I was petrified and froze in my spot. He kept trying to get me to come up on stage and I just panicked started balling and ran to my Mom. So I missed my chance to get up on stage with George Jones.
