In-flight Wi-Fi still amazes me. Instead of reading or sleeping, we're making magazines from seat 20E. Normally that's a middle seat, but on this plane there's no window seat. Know what that means? I get two tables. So glad I checked the available seats once more before turning in last night.
Nice plane, too. We have USB and power at each seat. The guy next me is destroying everyone else on in-flight poker, too.
Anyway, hello from somewhere near the Utah/Nevada border. Final destination: to see what the next Mazda MX-5 looks like.
Probably the Aircell / Gogo in-flight connectivity system since you're inside the USA. There's a lot of stuff coming in the next generation of internet connectivity options in aircraft; Gogo currently is basically a 3g cellular based tech so there's options there, and sat-based systems are starting to shift away from L-band and move towards Ku or Ka (there's in-fighting between the two depending on who is talking about it) which will be faster as well.
Faster is always cool. Gogo seems fine for e-mail, web and instant message. It's not super-thrilled about these photos I'm trying to upload. But hey, it's churning away.
In reply to David S. Wallens:
Well, there's basically two 3G modems on the aircraft, and you can imagine that others are using it at the same time. So that's an issue. In theory rate limiting per device is possible but I don't know what the Gogo iron allows for. There's talk from a competitive company bringing a pair of... wait for it... 4G modems to aircraft in a similar configuration. Or maybe Aircell will buy them out before it hits the market.
I still prefer sat solutions because they work outside of the USA where as Gogo doesn't. And they work below 10,000 feet of aircraft altitude where as Gogo doesn't. But the latency is higher and the data costs are usually higher as well. So, you know, trade offs.
We're getting close to SFO, so I paused the upload. I'll restart it once I stop moving. Still, neat stuff.

How can there be no window seat? Are the isles on the outside? Or do you mean there is no window seat in that isle on that plane?

Maybe he's in the back of the aircraft with the chicken crates and boxes of beets.
He's probably sitting on an inflatable raft....
20E...guessing exit row on a 737.

Maybe that seat got sucked out of a broken window on a previous flight.

Yup. So I had some extra space on my right. And I used it.
20E? A real automotive enthusiast would have opted for seat 20B (also acceptable would have been 10A, 12A, or 13B)

Your plane wifi reminded me of this Louis CK rant.

Only if he proceeded to make lots of noise, consume way too much fluid and then blow chunks out the exhaust....
So yeah that would have worked

I was going with it's a miata unveiling, not a new RX7/8/?
