Lets see if I an get lucky and if someones of you can help me find this man and some of his writings, for I've lost them and can't quite remember his name.
He was a preacher who'd studied theology (as I recall). He wrote several books that I think were consolidated from some sermons he preached, or perhaps broadcast in some interviews or radio programs. I think he was from the early 20th century. I also think he was an American.
His works focused on demythologizing the Bible. He wrote several works, focusing on various sections of the Bible. I really thought the first book of his that I read was called "Who Wrote the Old Testament", but that gets me nowhere searching. That particular book focused on timelines and physical reconstruction of old documents. As in the physical joining of some.
He was very Bultmann like, but was not Bultmann.
I want to say it was George Washington Irving or Irvington, but I find nothing under that name. Well, red herrings for Washington Irving of course.
Does any of this ring a bell to any of you folk?
If your talking about skeptics there was Adolf Von Harnack, C.H. Dodd, Karl Bart, Jürgen Moltmann. Don't know much about them. I'm a fan of John MacArthur and he pointed them out. May I ask what you are working on?
No, sorry. I'm mostly familiar with Catholic theologians. Though I'm a big fan of CS Lewis.
Washington Gladden. WOOHOO!!!
"Who Wrote the Bible, A Book for the People" and the supliment to it "7 Puzzling Bible Books" are the ones I was thinking of.
Thank you gents so much for your help!! And especially thank you DanielCut.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Some specialized Christmas shopping can now be done!
Oh, and Fletch, my son and father are both into theology. Most of the books my dad had were lost in the fire. I'd read the two above as ebooks from somewhere, and was quite impressed and intrigued with them. Unfortunately, I'd lost them and couldn't remember the author. I wanted to find some of his works to give to both my father and son for Christmas.
Any question, any subject, any time. Amazing.

Well, to be fair, this one took almost a half hour to answer.
I think we're slipping.

In reply to foxtrapper:
Oh, ok. I never heard of him, but I'm researching him now. I did find some nice quotes he once said.
Yeah, all questions can be answered here.
I thought you were talking about my dad for a couple lines there...
Luckily not.
