One of my customers just bought a house with this awesome beefy steel gate that looks like it might be made by a security storm door company, and uses the same hinges as one.  Another customer has MS and is looking for the same thing in 32” width to go across his steps because he’s fallen down them already.  Unfortunately the gate came with customer number ones house so she doesn’t know where it came from.  Does anyone know a source for these or even a source for the hinges and the door knob area so I could fabricate one?

Do you have an iron fence guy you deal with?  We recently had a couple similar ones installed at work and a local wrought iron shop made them.

Impressive.

It also makes me wonder if...buy exterior style, metal, full door version then fab in half.

Good point. He could probably find a few of them on Craigslist/Marketplace while he’s at the Challenge for cheap.

I would definitely find a used security door and cut it in half.  This one almost looks like what they started with-

Grainger sells a gate box if you wanted to roll your own, but I think the used door would be cheaper and easier.

Is this to keep someone from falling down the stairs or ?????

Just wondering what you need to do so it meets Fire codes ,

Yes, and for ease of use.  Small barrel bolts and other latches are harder to operate than a normal doorknob.  I want it to be strong and easy to use.  I definitely have had storm doors on the radar to cut down, but i think it would be easier to start from scratch.

We have a grainger about 20 minutes away so i’ll check on that gate box because i was looking at making that out of some 16ga sheet, and it would save time
