The question is this:
Vanity plates? or no?
The car in question is an 84 corvette, and the plate idea is "slowvet" or "slovett" or some such. I thought it would be funny because crossfire injection. But then I thought vanity plates are something a "corvette guy" would do. I bought this car looking for a cheap way to have something reasonably fast and handle reasonably well and be reasonably reliable. I don't want to ever be a "corvette guy" though. You know the type. "Hey man thats a nice looking F150. How do you like the Ecoboost?" "It has decent power but this is my wife's truck. I drive a corvette." "My corvette has never been outside after dark." "Never been in rain." "Its one of only 37000 that year with those exact options." "Way faster than my neighbors mustang."
I don't want to be that guy. Should I skip the vanity plate? It would allow more go-fast budget...
I think if you get a vanity plate it should say "Camaro" just to berkeley with people

Dang, it's hard to get "gold chains" down to seven letters... (I kid, I kid!)
I was just reading "Peter Egan On The Road" the other night, and hit his column about Corvette Racers (from the Sprite racer's point of view). I laughed.
Neat car! Skip the plate.

Isn't that a great column? Long, long time ago...
Forget the plate.
Vanity plates can be cool. My screenname was my vanity plate on my 70 duster in high school.
I am not a vette guy, however.
My vote for a plate: vice. Lime Miami vice. Thats what i think of every time i see an early c4.
Or sloth, as a play on the slowvette.
If you don't want to be "That guy" then paint it camo green, flat finish. It'll drive the Corvette crowd at your local cars and coffee nuts. Black steelies, too.
Vanity plates are only problematic when douchey or too serious.

That’s ma'am to you!
Hey! Don't be ma'amin' me.
Eh I say go for it. I'm going to put plates on the 6. Probably going with "awd ms6", because mazdaspeed 6. Just don't tell everyone you meet you drive a corvette (1/3 people max) and you'll be fine.
The clever ones can be cool, especially if they only mean something to a small group of drivers on the road that might see it. I will be soon getting a vanity plate that reads L8APEX. It will only have meaning to autocrossers and road racers and that's the way I want it.

You don't need to tell them if you're wearing a Corvette jacket.

Best possible answer. And I'm 97% sure that legally he's required to own one. It'll look perfect with his bow tie print Hawaiian shirt and khaki shorts.

Down here in the South we like 'miss' for younger ma'ams.
And no, vanity plates are rarely good things.
Does your state have collector or historic plates? Wisconsin has collector plates, for vehicles over 20 years old. One time registration fee, can't drive it in January, font have to renew every year. That's my plan, when I get a C4...

Apologies! I am still new here and I haven't actually met any of you.
Also it is in desperate need of paint. A thread is on its way. Olive drab maybe because although I know better, deep down I am still a jeep fan. Maybe a big-a wing just for giggles. Maybe the build will be themed "fairly competent trollmobile" or something like that.
Thanks for all the response everyone. If things go ok I should be at the DMV monday to get it registered. I'm leaning towards the cheapest option that will allow me to daily the car year round. Probably just standard plates
THTGUY is what I would go with.
