I've got a weird problem that I can't figure out. Printing from SolidWorks to an HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL, I can't get it to print grayscale from a drawing. If I print a model, it comes out rendered fine. If I print a pdf of a drawing, it comes out fine, and then printing that pdf on the HP it comes out rendered fine. The only issue is when printing a drawing to the HP, a rendered view comes out in only black and white.

Thoughts?

I've isolated it to a SolidWorks problem. someone else in the office printed the drawing just fine. Hmmm...

Look for a greyscale option in the printing section of your program. I'm not familiar with your ap, but probably in some kind of "Properties" tab or button related to printing or page setup.

Yeah - it prints black and white, even with grayscale checked. That makes me think that there's a grayscale option somewhere that adjusts the number of grays available, and it's at the minimum.

Dave,

I've got an HP laser printer and have never had this problem with solid works or ProE.

Not sure what to tell you?!

Last time I had an issue with ProE I did some google searching and was able to find a few decent user forums which produced the answers needed very quickly.

Good luck!

I haven't used Solidworks in 4+ years, but I remember having this problem. Unfortunately, I can't remember how I fixed it. Are you a member of www.eng-tips.com? There's a Solidworks forum there that usually had an answer for any question I had within hours (membership is free). Or you can try the Solidworks Community site: https://forum.solidworks.com/index.jspa

Have you downloaded the latest drivers (or the latest SW approved drivers) for your printer?

We have similar issues when plotting from Revit sometimes. Often easier just to plot it PDF and then print the PDF.
