"Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars.."

Well, not gonna be back to Jupiter for awhile..but Mars, we'll give it another try.

Jeez, I hope this works. The EDL sequence looks like something one of us would have come up with. Can't use the airbags because MSL weighs about 2000lb., can't use a legged lander because the ground has to be flat. And there's work to be done in places that aren't flat.

Yeah, that would have been cool. Gotta admit, one of the reasons I'm sweating this one so bad is the budget cuts..if this one doesn't make it, it'll be a decade before we can co back.

...and, being in FL, I can tell you that our state economy will suffer if things get cut any more.

Ustream might be the way to go..in the past, I've tried the NASA TV link, so many people try to get on that the video gets choppy.

^Noted! thanks.

There also appears to be this 'live' computer simulation, but it runs like junk on my connection. http://eyes.nasa.gov/

It's kind of a Beta thing, uses Flash. Been playing with it since shortly after Juno launched. If you can get it to work, you can also use it to look at other missions.

i heard that, too..

i was watching it live on NASA TV- channel 212 on Dish Network...

i was kind of disappointed that there wasn't a lonely asian guy in an American flag t shirt that couldn't find someone to hug right after it landed like there was way back when Spirit landed.. i kinda felt sorry for that guy, but it was kinda funny..

also, i was shocked- shocked- that everyone in the control room was eating the good luck peanuts and no one appeared to be allergic..

My friend who knows a bunch of people at Marshall Space Flight Center was saying that a bunch of people over there were thinking it wouldn't work.

I'm glad I stayed up to watch the landing! I had the sim running along with the live feed from mission control. The was about a 30 second delay between the two. I laughed out loud when someone exclaimed OH E36 M3 as well.

What a cool experience!

You know what? That there collection of engineers is the hands down awesomest collection of such on the face of the earth. Look at the track record, holy e36m3 we're building some extremely complex stuff that you know would just rather not work at all, but they make it behave WAY more often than not. The more i read about this landing, the more impressive it is. if I could specify on my 1040 form where I wanted my tax money to go, I'd send it all to NASA...

....I'd send most of mine there, too, but some has to go to the DOT. No rallycross car, so I need some pavement.

MRO does more than relay signals. HiRise is one hell of an instrument.

I like the way that one's edited. I keep forgetting that a lot of people don't know what the jargon means. Splicing it with the CGI piece about the landing was brilliant.

As a reward, here's the Decent Imager footage..
