We have a local bank in town that is beyond friendly and has been ridiculously helpful to me. I started going there because my employer banked there and my paychecks were taking an inordinate amount of time to clear at my bank. I opened a savings account there to cash my checks, and deposit the cash.

I discovered in doing both transactions in one day a couple times that the smaller bank was easily 100 times more polite and easy to work with. So I opened a checking account there and made the switch. A major plus was that they have an agreement with my old (national chain) bank that allows me to use their ATMs for free.

Switched to a smaller, local bank when we moved last year. Love it. Felt so good when I got the final closure statements from BofA.

As another bonus, our accounts don't get hacked every two months as they once did when the aces at BofA were at the helm.

I was very happy with Commerce Bank.. now that they are TD Bank.. not so much.

Last bank I had.. got bought out 5 times before being swallowed by BoA. I still had cheques from the original account I was using.
