What? This has to be a canoe!
No, its real. I have been here for a while, just haven't posted lately.
For the past 2 years I have been working for Xtreme Xperience as a driving instructor. Its not a bad gig and this past January they opened a permanent location at NOLA Motorsports Park. https://nolamotor.com/xtreme-xperience-exotic-cars/ http://mylifeatspeed.com/xtreme-xperience-kick-off-event-at-nola/ http://www.thextremexperience.com/exotic-driving-experience-new-orleans/
Anyway here's the deal; Do you like going fast? Do you like teaching? What about supercars? Do you like supercars? Finally what do you think of jazz and crawfish? Xtreme Xperience at NOLA is looking for a full time instructor. It's more fun than you think, the track is awesome and of course, New Orleans. Yes it's some long hours, but it's also a lot of track time. You want to get faster? Watch other people. You will see the mistakes you make and learn the corrective action.
Obviously were not looking for just anyone, you should actually know how to drive in a high-performance environment, be comfortable speaking in front of a small group of people, and be able to relate basic driving concepts to very inexperienced drivers. You should know the business end of a wrench, but the mechanical work you will perform is minimal. It actually just about knowing when do take the cars to the mechanic, and keeping a watchful eye on tire and brake consumption in addition to any funny noises you hear.
You would be an employee of Xtreme Xperience. They still travel the nation, but you would be at NOLA Motorsports Park. It's primarily instructing but you should know a little about mechanical stuff. We don't teach the racing line exactly, unless they are really good, but its more about keeping them safe and cheerleading for three laps. Its not racing instruction per sea, more along the lines of keeping the client safe, making sure they have fun and giving them a few pointers.
There is a big track and what we call the supercar sprint circuit, which is basically a big, over-marked big Autocross. But a great many of our clients don't know what autocross is, so we had to market it differently.
It can be long hours, but it balances out during the slower points of the week. You will work most weekends. The pace depends on the number of clients. We have a great staff of local guys we bring in when it gets real busy but the whole team down there is just 2 people. 4 cars, Lamborghinit Gallardo, Ferrari 458, Nissan GTR and Porsche GT3. Occasionally you travel to help out the road crew or a private event. Your travel is covered and usually you get a little extra.
Yes, there is sales involved, but not nearly enough to make you feel dirty.
