A neighbor's Mazda3 got hit and run while parked last night.
The following part was left on the ground from the offender. GRM identification powers, ACTIVATE!
Any help will be appreciated.
Looks like a fog light insert for a lower valance. That black plastic part probably just snaps into the chrome housing, which means it might have a part number or markings that could be helpful.
I think it's from the passenger's side of a base model Hyundai Santa Fe without foglights. Your friend is holding it upside down in her photo.
Backside picture of the part for part text please - this will get you a part number. My current guess is late model FCA - Chrysler Dodge Jeep.
Excellent info, thanks. I will ask her for a pic of any part number visible on the back.
That Santa Fe looks promising, but I'm not sure about the scale and the difference in width of the chrome at top and bottom.
Part number should help solve the mystery. Thanks for all the input so far.
If for some reason the part-number plan doesn't work out, go looking for the company or car that uses those elongated hexagons in the grille or valance. They're a design feature that somebody somewhere is very proud of.
I don't think the Santa Fe is quite right, and I'm not convinced it is an SUV based on where the impact happened on the 3.
In reply to Duke :
It does look very Honda-ish to me. Toyota has a similar grille pattern on some of their stuff too.
Police haven' been involved ? They have more resources than you.
So you identify the vehicle, then what.

In my experience the police have no interest unless there were injuries. My wife was involved in a hit and run. The police took the report over the phone and gave her a file number for our insurance company.
I'm waiting for the part number. I have too many of those in my head and likely can tell you what manufacturer pretty quickly.
But guessing of pic alone I'd go Acadia.
It's an unfortunate fact that police give zero berkeleys concerning a hit and run without bodily injury.
Not an Acadia. The Acadia has chrome that wraps under the front plate area. The piece that popped out look almost self contained. I think it might be Honda.
The chrome surround would likely indicate a higher trim/model, yet the lack of a fog light counters that.
Zoomed in on the black plastic, I think that elongated hexagon pattern is pretty unique. It makes me think Taurus or Fusion.
