I'm considering some cheap static cling window tint to hopefully keep indoor temps down a little. Is this a plausible idea?

There is a brand sold at Home Depot/Lowes. I considered it once myself.

Yes, my wife had it done on our front windows that face the west. It cut down on the heat and all our stuff was starting to fade. Wife happy = me happy

I'd be considering this too, is there a privacy benefit... not that I have a meth lab or nuttin'

I too considered it for my old house on the west facing sliding glass doors.
The late day sun would cause the temp indoors to really rise.
On my current house, the whole east wall is windows but the heat build-up is not bad. To the west, I have only one window and little to the south.

Tin foil works better. The tint will work but not that great. The E rating of the windows and how they are constructed matter more.

My buddy who who the winders in my F250, tinted all of his house windows himself in 35%, man you can tell the temperature and light difference.

Heavy drapes would probably have the same effect while not looking so tacky.

All the neighbors had this one guy tint all the west windows. You can't tell as its not mirrored or super dark.

SomedayS you do look out and think its a cloudy day. The you realize that it is not as cloudy as you thought.

When we built our house we got all the windows with the dual pane inert gass fillled and UV coated/tinted. You can't feel any heat through them at all. It can be 105* outside and you fell absolutely none of it on the interior windows. They have a cool blue tint to them too.

I tinted the door wall on the east side of my house. It kept the heat gain WAY down. I'm going to do the picture window in the West side this weekend.

That all depends. We have deep red drapes. With liners (white) and I can feel the heat pouring off them when it's hot. And it's been Africa hot the last bunch of days.
About 3 pm, when the sun has been hitting those drapes for an hour or so, the temp in that room climbs noticably.

Should work great. Keep in mind that it will install on the outside so as to not build up lots of heat inside of your 2-3 pane, gas filled, expensive windows.

If anyone needs tint just ask ...... get sizes square footage ect ; Usually windows are the same so you get repeats 28x34 times 12 ect sliders are usuall 33 by 75 44 by 75 ........................ DR 25 by Suntek insulated glass friendly and blocks about 65% of the heat ............ The usual beer and whatever it costs for film plus shipping
