Hahahaha, you're right, of course.  My post gives the odds of them dying on, specifically, January 4th.  Your original post gives the correct odds for II dying on the same random day as his father did...

...but, if he can only be killed on a specific day and he battles deadly magical foes every day, his odds of dying on that particular day are still 1 to 1 (assuming his foes are undefeatable when he is vulnerable).  I'm glad to have provided the assist for your little fantasy epic, here.

Boy, I'm going to boot up a word processor and start working on this novel.

I'm going to start treating it like Arthur Dent in Mostly Harmless, when he finds out he's fated to accidentally kill a guy at a point in time he hasn't reached, so he starts being completely reckless because he knows that he has to survive until that point in time. I can live like a lunatic 364 (or 365, if it's a leap year) days a year, because I can only die on January 4th.

On a side note, as a celebration of surviving another January 4th, and an early birthday present, I'm purchasing a Kraftwerks blower kit for my Miata.

Once you go blower, you never go back.

Because I'm jumping from 1.6L to the 1.8L and adding a supercharger, once could effectively say I'm getting stroked and blown.

Can't tell if that's just in reference to the concept of throwing boost at a Miata, or if it's a subtle dig at the Kraftwerks kit.
