On the side that already has insulation there ductwork for a bathroom fan, otherwise my heating system is run by a boiler and (Pipping)water.

Just called my utility. They provide energy audits - free of charge! I have one set up for next month!

That's good then. The reason I asked is because ducts in attics are a bad idea. They are typically only wrapped with R6 insulation, so you basically are pre-heating all your cooling air during ac season, and pre-cooling all your heating air during heating season. Lots of energy wasted...

^ Yep^

Good point.

When I discuss air infiltration and leakage, I am also referring to ducts.

Just didn't say it well

Yes, thank you everybody, I think what I am going to do is use what I have. Does anybody have any advice on cutting the pink insulation? is a box cutter the best to use?

I use a box cutter. The cheap long skinny blade kind. Just extend the blade all the way out.

Yep, box cutter.

I lay the batt paper side down on a scrap of plywood. Then I use a small board (like a 2' long 1x2) to push down on the fiberglass at the cut line. The box cutter easily cuts completely through the compressed insulation
