Have a problem to solve and looking for relatively inexpensive ideas. We have a 4 sided bookcase that is on a turntable so it can be spun around. There are lights on 2 sides that were wired up through the center of the turntable and eventually the cord got all twisted and failed. Thinking something with a metal circle that mounts on one side and a spring loaded "button" on the opposite piece to make contact as it spins around on the metal circle. Any other or better ideas? Something already manufactured would be preferred so I don't have to work out the bugs. What key words do I search for and where do I look?

How about battery powered LED lights?

Take apart a drop light that is on a retractable reel. Use the contacts from that.

We are redoing with LED light strings (with all the fancy colors and seizure inducing flashing and motions), but powered with a pair of wall warts...

Something like this?

Bet contact rings is the term I was unable to come up with. I'll have to check the lights, but I think most of the LED strings are 5-6 volts max so 12v would do the trick...

Not the solution that I think I need. I will be plugging 2 wall warts into an outlet and running the cords to the base of the bookcase and then need to splice into the wiring to cross from the base into the rotating bookcase.

Just ordered a 240v 15 amp slip ring for $17. Looks like just what I need. 300 LED strip is rated at 14.4v and 6 amps. All the cheap slip rings were 2 amps max per wire...

Thanks for all the ideas! Hopefully this works out when it arrives on the slow boat...

It would have to be from a Pinto...I wouldn't be able to get away with anything else.

"Slip ring" is also applicable.

On edit: I need to remember to refresh before posting if it's been several minutes between opening a thread and when I write a post.

Googling contact ring got me to slip ring and then it was all over...

This time of year you can also get a Christmas tree spinner that would have everything you need.

You'll need to log in to post.
