Google doesn't seem to be very helpful on this and GRM is easier than Google anyway...

We've looked a rental property today that's meeting all the requirements (OK, it could use a barn for more cars but hey...) but it doesn't seem to be that easy to find out if we can get cable or DSL out there. Is there a decent comparison site that can tell me what services are available?

If you can find out who provides service in the area generally, their web interface for ordering service usually has as step 1 a check to see if they offer service there.

Yeah, I checked with the local cable company but got conflicting results if they do or don't provide services at the address. The usual DSL suspects (AT&T, Comcast, Verizon) don't seem to offer service at that address according to their online checkers...

I used to work for VZ, many times DSL is avail even if the address doesn't work online. It could be avail but that address wasn't added into the database properly or it could be that the address that you are using is not what is listed as the service address. This happens a lot in rural areas. When you call let them know that you want DSL and the address wasn't working online. It will help if you have any current or past phone numbers for the location or the names of any past tenants. Even the phone number for any neighbors on the same side of the street will help to ID the proper address.
