So, trying to figure out how to deal with sex offender who is now living 4 houses down. Neighbor has some sort of alerts setup and bingo got one today so came over to discuss it. Guy is a pedophile. I thought these people couldn't live close to schools? He is 2 blocks away from elementary school. So the question to the collective hive. How would you deal. We really just want him gone soon.
before going full stupid, maybe find out the actual details of why he is on the list...

This, I have a friend on a list in NY because a cop decided to turn a public urination ticket into an arrest for exposing himself.

^truth, my friend almost became a sex offender for this same reason, it go thrown out in court though. but its still something to look into and not take lightly.
maybe just burn his house down? then he has to move
Wave a gun when he runs the stop sign?
Find out the details. I know a guy who became a sex offender because she swore she was 19. She had an id to prove it.
She was 15 and the id was fake.

Maybe he was 18 and got caught making out with his 17year old girlfriend in the backseat of his car. That will get you on the list for the rest of your life. Doesn't necessarily mean the man is a pedophile. I'd approach him, introduce myself and see what kind of vibe I get from the guy. If I was worried I'd go ahead and ask him for details.

BTW, what is a SVP? I thought this thread was going to be about Senior Vice Presidents and some workplace issue.
There is a website that lists predators in your neighborhood per your zip code, lost it though. They post pictures too. Surprised when I searched it there was one in an all too near neighborhood, recognized him one day and wondered, looked normal to me but what the berkeley do I know.
I get the same vibe outta the 'public urination' thing that I've become paranoid about wizzin' out back of my own garage that borders the woods and field, kids used to play back there before the electronic age.

The charges are
Sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. Sexually Violent Predator
and
Sexual assault on a child
these are 2 separate charges and 4 year difference. I don't think we are dealing with she said she was 18 or peeing in a bush. It looks like he is a pedo. I really don't want to talk to the guy except to tell him to get off my lawn.
You have the local PD number give them a call and ask about the school restrictions. But out here in hippy dippy California unless its a richer area the cops and enforcement guys will just ignore it if they are on the edge of legal.

This will be used against you in court.

For what? I'm not going after the guy. Neighbor already contacted the rental company that owns the house and he is not listed on the lease and never submitted the background check. Guess they are going to notify people on the lease that he is not allowed to live there. Thank god that's over.

I'm not posting this to start a fight, and I'm CERTAINLY not advocating for the rights to mess up kids by sexually assaulting them … or ANYTHING like that
but lets assume for a moment that a person is convected of a crime … any crime … serves their time and is released …. haven't they taken their medicine and are free to go on with their lives … they've paid their debt to society
but for sex crimes, regardless of how long you spend in prison (and here I'm assuming, not out on parole) shouldn't they be granted the same "continue with your life, such as it is" rights of other convicted felons ?
otherwise the sentences should be life in prison, since that's what it amounts to even after they're out … if it's considered a mental disease, then shouldn't it be treated that way from the start … like other mental diseases ?
like I said I'm not trying to start a fight on here and will come back and delete the post(s) if it turns ugly …. but would really like to hear folks opinions

My opinion is sure go ahead with their lives, but not near a school or parks. You don't understand the area I talking about I would say 100- 200 elementary school kids walk by every day. Then come 3:30 to about 6 or 7 the park/playground across the street is full of children. We have parents out watching the kids, but I would feel more comfortable if he was not here. Apparently he will not be there so all is well now. Maybe some of them can reform or whatever but this guy has 2 offenses against children and I don't want him anywhere near my kids.
well I actually do understand ( and glad for y'all that he's gone)
in many communities/municipalities … etc … there isn't much choice for where someone can live … and still work … there are schools, churches (with associated schools), recognized playgrounds, etc …. that would prohibit someone on the Sex Offender List from living in the vicinity … near a bus line .. if (s)he has no car then bus line is the only means of transportation (assuming that work, groceries .. etc are too far for walking or biking)
like I said, it seems like a life sentence when no other released convicts have to operate under the same rules
as for reforming … not likely … as it's usually a mental disease (or so I've read)
again, my point is how is this person supposed to get on with their lives ? (of course they could have .. not done the crime to begin with)

i see what you are getting at but would you always trust the "if they are truely better now?" aspect? do you think drug dealers who get out always stop dealing drugs? do you think someone who was able to take another persons life wouldnt be willing to kill again if he really wanted to? do you think prostitutes wont go back to the corner after they get out?
I am not saying that everyone who leaves prison will go back to there old way, sometimes people do learn there lesson and become a better person because of it.
But when it comes to my families safety, especially my child, who would have no way of defending herself against an adult who has been proven (twice) to be the worst kind of human being, I would not put them in that situation.
What's a pederast, Walter?

Conversely, I know a guy who once had a dude knock on his door to make the legally required notification that he was a sex offender and that he would be moving in nearby soon. He said it was just for public urination though.
Friend looked him up online, he was actually a pedophile
In Canada, mental health related crimes can see you detained indefinitely until you are deemed better.
You are then monitored very closely for years.
Edit-
I should clarify that my point is that just because you are a pedophile doesn't mean you have to sexually assault a kid. Just like a man who is into legal aged women doesn't have to rape them.
If you do those things, its not because your mental condition forced you to, its because you are a f*&ked up individual. That E36 M3 doesn't change, especially pedophilia, it is a DISEASE and it CAN'T BE CURED. So if you are a pedophile who ACTS on your brain being screwed up, prior actions predict future behavior, so yes, you should not be "free".

Then tell your kids not to go to his house. Do you really think he's just going to run up and grab a kid walking by?
Maybe it's me, but isn't knowing where he is better than not knowing where he is?
Maybe we can take all the violent offenders and sex crims and put em on an island.

FWIW I have the same situation in my neighborhood. There's a registered pedo about five houses up the street. My kids know what he looks like, and my daughter will call the cops immediately if he attempts to talk to her.
Our sheriff's dept has a google map that shows the locations of all sex offenders in the county.
Edit, during a Top Gear commercial break, I found this: Harvard Mental Health Article
This site will map out your areas sex offenders, hover on dots to see what offense.
