i see what you are getting at but would you always trust the "if they are truely better now?" aspect? do you think drug dealers who get out always stop dealing drugs? do you think someone who was able to take another persons life wouldnt be willing to kill again if he really wanted to? do you think prostitutes wont go back to the corner after they get out? I am not saying that everyone who leaves prison will go back to there old way, sometimes people do learn there lesson and become a better person because of it. But when it comes to my families safety, especially my child, who would have no way of defending herself against an adult who has been proven (twice) to be the worst kind of human being, I would not put them in that situation.

that's my point .. poorly stated … and NO I don't believe that "they're all better now" … just that they have served their penalty as proscribed by law … but in the case of sex offenders they now pay for the rest of their life as opposed to other released felons .. so I guess I'm asking why we think this is right

and I DO understand the worry parents have for their children's safety … but I also think that we as a country shouldn't punish beyond what the courts proscribe … it's a conundrum that I'm actually more curious about than actually PO'ed about …

I'm not trying to force sex offenders (who are VERY likely to repeat) onto a neighborhood, but would like to see if there is a fair way to treat someone who's paid his (her) debt to society
