I have been looking for an H&R 940 a long time now but the only auctions I ever find are ended. Does anyone know of one for sale?
Has anyone had one? Are they decent guns if left stock? I'm only planning on using it for targets and cause I love the look!
I am also looking for either a P22 or a SR22 (Ruger handgun not the 10/22 variant). If I recall they are both about the same price, I haven't shot either but I have shot an SR9 which I liked a lot. Which would you choose between these two? Where would be the cheapest place to buy one?
Note: if there is a cheaper yet reliable option to either the P22 or the SR22 I am all ears. It is a gun that I want to shoot the rifling out of, just to get used to aiming and shooting a handgun w/o draining my bank account on 9mm rounds.
Thanks
Joshua
I just saw two 940s for sale on Gunsamerica.com...

But "an offer for purchase" has been placed on the second one. That wouldn't be you would it?
My first pistol was an H&R 999. Same pistol except it was a top break. I shot a lot of rounds through it and had one malfunction that was repaired under warranty. I traded it in for a Browning Challenger, which I still have and love. The H&R wasn't as well made as the Browning, but was still a good pistol. I have found myself looking around for another one, but if they are going for those prices, I'll pass.

Cool thanks Bill! I think I'll wait to see if a slightly cheaper one pops up!
My grandfather had an HR 999 and gave it away I was very upset about that.
My sister has a 949 - the solid-frame version with an ejector rod like the Single Action Army Colt. It's even simpler to operate than the 940, with less to go wrong. A darn good plinker.
You can always try gunbroker.com too. Its sort of an eBay style site, just with guns You'll need to setup your own ffl transfer but I've gotten some killer deals on there.
Though there doesn't appear to be any 940s on there right now.
Curiosity question. Any particular attachment to the H&R or just something you know? I learned how to shoot with a .22LR S&W J frame revolver that was older than me. Pretty sure it was 9 shots too, my father still has that pistol.
IIRC the H&Rs are nine shot and will fire shorts, longs and long rifle.
