For some reason I remember reading a few years ago that someone, maybe BF Goodrich set up pits to service vehicles in desert races like the Baja 1000 and that they had ads looking for help. For some reason this sounds like fun if I can ever travel again but I can't find any info on it. Did I make this up or am I failing at the google?

That is probably where I saw it and looks like a good time. Now to figure out how to get there.
Build a Class 11 Beetle and race there.
Checkers was the off road club that also did this ,
not sure if they are still around....
There are smaller events in the southwest if you'd rather not cross the border.
