I actually don't like how Porsche flat-6s sound. They sound like a tractor at idle and blatty at RPM. *ducks*

The old air cooled I agree. The newer turbo cars sound pretty good. They still can't put the engine in the right location but at least they made it sound better
I'm sorry my engine sounds so good I look down upon others from my tower of greatness. If you can't make hp anyway, why can't these sound decent
I also like the sound of the VQ's with a good exhaust.
Not the tiny, bullet-type straight throughs with no resonator's in the exhaust further up stream. Any engine sounds like garbage with an exhaust like that.

At idle, anything above that and they sound like raspy ass garbage. I'd take a VQ anyday over that.

Sorry, the Honda J-series exists. I've heard a J-swap Miata and it made amazing sounds.

TBH my Trooper does sound pretty darn good. You might be right.

Naw. Only when they are in poorly maintained old Pontiac.
I think you are thinking about the 3800.

This one sounds pretty fine.

Yeah those too. 2.8, 3.4 hell all of then sound like raspy ass.
Boy, if there was ever a thread that proved the old adage, "There is an ass for every chair", its this one.
Subarus with farty exhaust sound like they are running on three all the time.
Ferrari Dino's sound nice. Maserati Merak's sound nice. Alfa 164's sound nice. Mazda KL's sound nice. These are scientific facts.
I remember the first time I heard an Infiniti G35 with an exhaust on it and thought it sounded really great. I've heard bad exhausts on the 350Z and G35's but they seem kind of rare compared to cars that sounded good to my ears. Maybe not KL good but not that different either.

I like the UEL sound as well, just because it's so different.
I'll probably be "that guy" and put on a UEL when I buy a 2nd-Gen BRZ.

Unless it won't idle below 1600rpm and has a redline way higher than the one on the factory tach.
Wait till it warms up, about 50 seconds.
Sounds good enough that I may do the same to mine
I always thought the VQ's sounded like Chewbacca having a conversation with R2-D2, but that's just me.
Here's my oddball observation. I've driven and ridden in a few VQ powered 350z's. They actually sound pretty decent from INSIDE the car. I assume this is why their owners insist revving them out despite sounding like a 6th grade sax player.
I'll take a video of my 3500 gm v6 with a craptastic obx exhaust. Sounds pretty damn good, but ill let yall be the judges.

I don't get the hate.
Likewise - had a 2005 G35X with an HKS axle back and I loved how it sounded.
I -really- like the sound of the VQ in my wife's M35x, but it still has all factory exhaust. Her car is not for ass trumpeting.
My daily is a carb'd 11:1 big cam V8. I sit in the truck listening to the idle just before going in to work.
I call it "potato therapy."
Some pay hundreds if not thousands for counseling, therapy, liquor, or worse. I merely pay at the pump.
