Lol, I'd just blow it motorcycles and rallycross projects.

I could have the boys name changed and he would be set up with a fully funded college fund...

I can understand distro'ing the money to a charity, cause, foundation, etc, especially if the decendents are all financially independent already, but to let it go to the government?!?! That is, by far, the worst place to send it. They already pull so much unethical BS to take as much money from its citizens it's ridiculous, why give them more so they can inefficiently waste it away? And I work for the government!

Very strange situation. I’m a Liberal who thinks income tax should be higher, but I’m 100% against inheritance tax to start with and just can’t fathom voluntarily giving the money away.

But if the family wants too, this may not be the end.

Note, the following is the exception when compared to most independently wealthy people and families I know, but it proves that ass holes at all levels of society. I have a friend who is now divorced from the family in question, but she was disgusted by this. Going back three generations from the generation she was married too, there was a very very successful guy, helped run a massive house hold known company and had serious money. One of the descendants who was the exception in the family in that they were really nice and generous had no children. Her will was specific in that she didn’t want a single penny going to the rest of the family, all of who were independently wealthy anyway. The money was earmarked for favorite charities and certain friends. It didn’t matter. The rest of the family lawyered up and post legal fees the family got everything that was left. Nothing went to the intended recipients.

I’m not advocating for lawyering up, but if you wife’s family wanted too, I’m sure they could reverse the will.

I don't think anyone will contest it. But you never know. I'm staying out of it completely.
