Yeah....
If you do some reading, they've messed with some genes from a real wolf to make it -look- like a direwolf.
They haven't actually brought the real thing back.
To add on to this, the Grey Wolf, whose DNA they used as a base for the gene editing, is not even in the same genus as the Dire Wolf.
What they made are just transgenic grey wolves. They're not dire wolves in the same way a mouse with wooly mammoth DNA is also not a wooly mammoth.
It's basically a tribute band that bought some of the amps from the original band on Craigslist.
This is not an extinct dire wolf

Coincidentally enough, I just showed this to my kids last night...
Combining Jurasic Park with Dungeons and Dragons - what could possibly go wrong?
Also, didn't realize dire wolves were white. I figured they looked like gray wolves, only bigger. I wonder if they figured the color out before or after the pups were born?

Extinct animals are extinct for a reason. They are a failed species that could not compete with the world they lived in. 99% of the species that have lived on Earth are now extinct. They died to make room for newer species that could compete.
Why bring them back from the dead? What purpose does it serve? Maybe let the dead dogs lie.

Man, that episode was a hard one.

YOU LEAVE SEYMOUR OUT OF THIS
I think of all the failures they don't mention.
Puppys born with no head, six legs, giant dongs, what have you.
I do think a mammoth rug would be pretty cool.

I dunno, I don't think anyone is keeping that one quiet.

Gee, I'm surprised there haven't been more GoT memes...
I for one am waiting for Jurassic Park.
I will not be going to Jurassic Park if it opens, but it's the most absurd thing that can happen this year and I plan on pointing and laughing.
Although in all seriousness, Kualoa was awesome when we went
In reply to Antihero :
In any other year I might agree with you, but I'm not so sure that Jurassic Park is actually the most absurd thing that can happen this year.

Why not both? I would prefer my dragon with the fire breathing option please

I just oppose Colossal lying about their work to look more impressive, and I'm disappointed by the journalists who took their word for it.
It could be worse. If the journalists actually did their research the headline could have been Science creates first trans wolf.
Disappointed in the lack of Duran Duran references

I would think that the direwolf would eat the same kind of stuff I feed my Huskies and Malamutes and I can buy it at the local Petsmart down the street. They would just eat more of it. What do dragons eat? Is there a Purina Dragon Food that you have to drive out to a rural feed store to find. What do they make dragon food out of? What about dragon treats and dragon toys. Amazon? Do they make dragon frisbees. Would they have Dragonball instead of Flyball competitions. I don't want my dragon to get bored.

Mrs. Snowdoggie used to say that my Alaskan Malamute, Rocky had the biggest one she ever saw on a dog. I thought that was kind of strange that she noticed. He was about 120 pounds and everything about him was big.
I was thinking I would have to take the dragon to a rural vet that also took care of horses to get his shots because he actually has a barn behind the office big enough for horses.
or dragons.

Just come to FL and go to Gatorland. It's about the same thing, and they serve nachos.

Based on experiences with my Bernese Mountain Dogs, Newfoundland, Great Dane and Maremma vs other people's toy Poodles, Chihuauas and Yorkies...
I bet Direwolves are just big, cuddly idiots that think they're lap dogs.
The smaller the dog, the more the evil is concetrated.

Good news, everyone, my brother has successfully created the Torment Nexus.
I did a quick Autotrader search for diesel AWD non-pickups in a 50mi radius and there's a cheap ML320 Bluetec. Were I to buy it, I would call it The Torment Nexus.

The thing about big dogs though is when they mean business, they really mean business. While a small lapdog barking incessantly at you is annoying, a 150lb dog doing the same is scary.
Our Poodle/Maremma mix is a goofy, fluffy, doofus that's afraid of most things. He however only likes and trusts 3 people , his War Potato brother and 2 cats and if there is a threat to this small little group he will very much remind you that he's berkeleying huge, that he's half Livestock Guardian and half war dog.
Seriously, he's over 6ft tall by a healthy margin when he stands up on our fence and his jaws are big enough that he picks up footballs to play with. I've seen him in berkeley You Up Mode once when something was in our shop and I walked near it outside the fence,I'm very certain he knew he could clear the fence if he wanted to. And that he would if danger happened
And he's technically our small dog lol
