I’ve been meaning to proactively set out some poison at the “creek house” (early 1900’s farmhouse that we’re slowly renovating.) Wife and I have spent a couple nights there. We were planning on doing a sleepover with the kids there tonight.
Wife is there getting everything ready and found an inhabited nest in the master bedroom closet :/
For now, I told her to locate the bait stations and put them in closets/under cabinets, and my plan is to shove the nest (and any critters that might be in it) in a trash bag, clean the closet thoroughly and reassess.
Sound like a plan? Or? I hate to call an exterminator, but if that’s what I should do, I will.

Get a cat. My old calico was a predator! She created a 200 yard kill zone around my house, nothing got past her...

We’re only there on weekends, so not a great option right now. Not a fan of outdoor kittehs as I love them too much to see them get mangled by coyotes, dogs, etc.
Yes, call an exterminator. They have all the tricks to deal with them and to look for all the possible entries (which in an old house I’m sure there are many). Best to let a pro help you get ahead of the problem.
A roller bucket trap will work too and the water will delay the death stench over a weeks absence.
anyone try quick drying plaster and oatmeal etc......
hardens inside the mice but not poison to the cats , hawks etc

that is a very interesting idea.
Set out poison last night and we just rolled with it. The nest is on a shelf in the closet and I didn’t want to go poking at it right before bed. Mama is in there and is not shy. According to wife, there are babies in there too.
Plan A: Get a stick and shove the whole thing into a trashbag, hoping at least the majority of the inhabitants make it in.
Plan B: Shop-vac?
Thoughts?
I ended up doing shop vac with a trash bag inside. Not sure if anybody was home. I saw their “run” last night and placed bait accordingly, so we’ll see if that works.
In reply to poopshovel again :
I've successfully used Plan B to remove a nest in a house we were remodeling.

Corn meal and redimix cement work wonders, and leave a dust trail to their nests.
Shop vac works. Also works when they build a nest in the wood chipper over winter and you fire it up shooting baby mice everywhere
In reply to Patrick :
That takes the title of this thread literally to a whole 'nother level.

Out berkeleying standing! When I was a kid, my brothers and I chased one around the garage for at least an hour. It eventually ran under the lawnmower, and without hesitation, my brother pulled the rope.

Interestingly that is the most humorous thing I have read today.

That's pretty berkeleying metal right there.
