My parents are in the market for a new car to replace their 2007 Honda CR-V. This is my mother's primary car, and all she cares about is if it starts and gets her to where she is going. Being a Honda, it has been dead-reliable for 160,000 some miles. The power steering is now leaking and one of the power door locks is making noise, nothing major and Mom would probably drive it another 100,000 miles.

Dad rented a RAV-4 recently and has decided that it would be a good replacement for the Honda, and they asked me for my opinion. UGH. It is ideal for their needs and will run forever I am sure. The local dealer is the same I use for my Sienna and they are really great, much better and closer than Hyundai or Kia or another Honda. There is literally nothing I can say against this purchase, and they don't care what a car looks like at all. So I am going to have to deal with this random assortment of straight lines and fender flares that don't go all the way around the wheel openings and that thing on the C-pillar and that front end.

Maybe they will go for black again, that seems to knock it down a bit.

Toyota and Mazda seem to be the worst at drawing their vehicles around the pedestrian safety rules.

And those wheel arches are unforgivable.

Looks like they tried to make a boring SUV look excited but went a bit too far.

Whatever you think of the aesthetics (eye of the beholder etc), the Mazdas are at least generally fun to drive.

It sounds like you don't have to recommend anything?

Nobody likes Chevy truck wheel arches. Why the hell did Toyota make an uglier version of them?

Rav4 is what the people want!  It will serve them well.

Best selling vehicle for 2021:

#1, #2, #3: F-series, Ram Truck, Silverado

#4: Rav4

#5; CRV

Sell that 2007 CRV by yourself.  Do not trade it in.  Even with issues it is likely a $8-$9k vehicle in this market.

$8k with fender damage
