Your son has the ability to have an opinion that isn't yours. Would it be better if he liked the show just because you do? You haven't failed as a parent until the cops call at 3 a.m. to have you come bail him out of jail.

True. I had the decency to wait until morning to call home.

It was just a joke. He was mad at me for hogging the tv when he wanted to play Ghostbusters on the PS3. I said when my show went off and he said well top gear is lame. Most times I'm watching it he'll sit down and watch it with me.

I have neither and I've never seen an episode of the show. And in my own opinion, I haven't missed anything.

As "weird" as it may sound to some, I'm just not (and have never been) turned on to car TV shows. I'm just simply not interested and see nothing wrong with it.

My daughter wants nothing to do with cars or driving. I had hope when she was TIG welding on the Bugeye at 13, but something traumatic must have happened. She refuses to go into therapy.

I might have to.

My son is 23 and is not a car guy (I joke too that I failed). He was mentioning something about worm drive clamps the other day and called them "those turney clamp things" and I laughed.

He is at a major university in California working on his doctorate in Chemistry, involved with a good church, completely supports himself, and is acquiring no debt as he goes - shoot, he sends me $150/month to cover his part of the cell phone family plan and his car insurance. Even though he doesn't eat/sleep cars like I do I am truly blessed.

The thing you're missing is the fact that it isn't really a car show as a whole. It is so much more, but does revolve around cars. Trust us, you are missing something rather awesome! Even my wife who isn;t really a car person at all loves the show. Maybe even more than I.

I honestly don't think I'm missing out on anything. Funny as it may sound, but I've been driving modified cars since 1986, but have never had a deep interest in cars. My interests have never gone any further than just driving. Growing up, I was never interested in the mechanics. I know most cars as in makes and models, but not so much the intricacies.

It's more than a car show, trust me. Are you interested in travel? If so it may be one of the better shows for seeing parts of the world you may never see. It happens to revolve around cars, but it's not really a car show if you ask me. My wife hates cars, and absolutely loves the show. The show isn't about the mechanics of a car. If someone told you that they were misleading you. Having never seen it you won't understand, and you can carry on not watching it, no skin off my teeth, but I say give it a chance. Or not.

I like travel and plan on doing so next year when Flo Jo is paid for and I get the hippie van to do my travelling in. Usually I'll watch Travel Channel and other shows like Georgia Traveler and other shows. I don't know, dude. I can't say that I've given it a chance and said no. It's just not something I've seen a preview of and thought that I'd like to watch it. Not to mention the few shows I do watch is more than enough to fill my few waking hours after countless hours and miles on the road day in and day out, lolol.

how can you say it's not about the mechanics of cars- they sometimes tell us how many torques a car has in it..

I think both Top Gears and Ghostbuster video games are lame. I know it is a show that is somewhat car related, but really, it is not a good show. If you have failed as a parent, then it has nothing to do with your like of bad TV or your son's like of video games.

+1 for trying MCM. TG is pretty hard on the attention span by kid standards and is hosted by old farts

I'm not quite old enough to get all of Jeremy's references.
