I’ve been wanting to get back to some racing, specially auto x. I’ve done some rally x events but never auto x.
I never did before because, while the wife is okay with me spending a whole day gone once month. Going to an event requires 4-5 hours of commuting. And part of my job is driving all week long so last thing I want to do on my days off is driving long distances.
Well I recently moved to Austin to, and figured now problem, huge town, COTA right down the road. And go and behold there’s no local sauction. Nearest even requires 3-4 hours of driving. WTH!!
sorry needed to vent off but this is frustrating
This organization is in Austin and organizes autocross events. http://www.spokes.org

That's only like an hour. You're going to have to travel for events, especially in TX.
They also run at COTA. I use to be on the BOD there. Great group of auto-xer's there with some big names that stop by including a certain someone that does a lot of tire testing for this magazine. At least the SA events are on the north side. You can blame the Austin city council for the lack of sites in town. Ordinances passed in 2005-2006 killed all usable sites in the city.
Don't rent the first canoe you find.
If you like to Kart, The Driveway has sunday karting as well and Cota now has karting leagues out there as well. http://www.circuitoftheamericas.com/karting/leagues
Then you have the Lone Star RallyCross about 40 miles south of town: http://www.lonestarrallycross.com/
You have 2 drag strips close. Little River and SAR. http://littleriverdragway.com/ & https://saraceway.com/
About the only thing missing is cheap track time with TWS now gone to the great racetrack heaven in the sky.
Everything mentioned is no more than about an hour from downtown without traffic.
In reply to bmw88rider :
I’ve seen the karting at COTA. I had plans to go there yesterday for cars and coffee and take kart out on track afterwards. But it got rained out. Only $28 for that!
Ive done few events at BCR just was hoping to have something more in my “backyard”.
If you want track time, H2R is in San Marcos and is about $200/month for as much track time as you want. Plus they have their own race series for 1.6L Miatas, Porsche 914s, and Fox body Mustangs with 2 races per month.

Autocross is not racing
It most certainly is if you are driving a hatchback.

You’re not allowed to comment if your track melts every spring!
