... does this seem like a good idea?
I used to like The Office, it went on too long and has been going downhill the past few seasons. Any spinoffs would likely be terrible as well.

Pretty much. I've lost interest at this point.

That is a pretty good analogy for this. Nobody likes Dwight/Kyle so lets create a show around him.
I thought they were setting up a Pam Jim spinoff. If the season premier the camera guy said "you are the ones we want to follow" and Pam said something like "why us. Nothing fun happens after you have kids" Then Jim invested in that business Pam knows nothing about.
But yeah, with the exception of Frasier, spin offs usually die.

Laverne and Shirley was a spinoff of Happy Days.
See? Lightning CAN strike twice
The Mindy project wasn't bad. Just watched the first episode last night. Not completely sold, but worth watching again.
I could see a Jim/Pam spinoff, but a whole show on Dwight sounds nauseating.
I watched Partners last night too...fail.

My name is Dwight. berkeley you.
Funny OT true story. One of the shops I frequent receives regular doses of my sarcasm. The girl behind the counter one day quipped: "If you had a show, I would totally watch it."
So again, in the nicest way possible, berkeley you.

they already did that.. twice.. they call it "the Nationwide Series" and "Camping World Truck Series"...
The Cleveland Show is a spin off from Family Guy, and American Dad appears to exist in the same universe and has character crossovers from time to time.
NCIS (the highest rated show on tv, if you believe their promos) is a spin off from JAG.
the Facts of Life was a Diff'rent Strokes spinoff..
Pinky and the Brain and Freakazoid were both spinoffs of Animaniacs..
so spinoffs can be successful if done right.

Before the Jefferson's was
And then there's
The first of many spinoff's from All in the family.

That's because Seth McFarlane has had ONE idea in his life. He has just managed to sell it 5 or 6 times for an obscene amount of cash.

Damn, I forgot about those.

And as a result, the product suffers. All of the products.
