Seats are way nicer in the 87s and 88 LSCs than the 89+, plus the dashes are less ugly because they didnt have dual air bags (or maybe no airbags, mine had a Grant wheel in it when I got it)
The 87s have the E6 motor, same as the 86 5.0 HO Mustang. Those had nasty heads and were 200 horse. The 88s have the E7 motor, same as the Speed Density 5.0 Mustangs and are 225 horse. I believe the big difference is heads, cam, and ECM programming?
The GRM Chump Car Lincoln has a Mustang front end. How'd they do that?
As a side note, think of the stares running a Mustang with the MK VII nose!

They are both Fox bodies, the dimensions are pretty close. It isn't a bolt-on affair, but it wouldn't be too bad a swap.

TTWOP
Ugh...
Looked at the car today. I didn't even get the toolbox out of the Burban that holds my compression tester, flashlight and other random tools. The car was sitting with the right rear corner hiked into the air like a dog pissing and had what looked like papier mache applied to the front fenders, hood and right rear quarter that had been hastily "painted" black. The guy had replaced the fuel pump but, since the inertia switch wasn't sending electrons to the pump he cut out the trunk floor and ran a jumper wire.
The front air springs had been replaced with coil springs that were bent and the driver's side had a collapsed coil. The core support had been smashed at some point then very poorly straightened. There was chicken wire...berkeleying CHICKEN WIRE running from the underside of the front bumper to the bottom of the core support. It ran reasonably well for a speed density 5.0, of course it had the old familiar idle surge, and the trans seemed solid. There was a steady cloud of smoke billowing out of the single glass pack and rolling out from under the hood.
I had to pass on it. Hopefully someone else can rescue it, I just don't have the time. There's no telling what kind of nightmares I would have encountered once I put a wrench to it. The search for a family friendly, cheap "grand touring" car continues...
In reply to Woody:
That first looks like a great deal for a grand!
I found a couple LSC's in Chicago. Maybe I'll make a trip up there next weekend but I'd rather stay local. My ADD has me looking at Volvo 850's again even though I yearn for a RWD V8...

My father had a '96 850 GLT that he bought new. Possibly the most comfortable road trip seats that I have ever been in.

Lemme know if you do. I'd dig meeting up and checking it out with you. Hell, if its in a northern suburb, I'd be happy to do some re-con.
