And I also think it will be a quiet week on my street.
If it weren't for your press credentials, I'd be seriously worried about "impersonating" charges...
But since you're good on that front, have fun!
Park randomly on the side of the road, watching traffic.
Find punk kids. Cruise by...
etc :)
I was behind a cop the other day on a two lane highway ramp. He was going to his favorite hiding spot behing the concrete barrier right at the merge. He was in the left lane and flipped his lights on so he could pull into his spot. The lady in front of me refused to pass him. She slowed all the way down to 10 M.P.H ON THE FREAKING HIGHWAY!!!!!!
Yeah, they vet you VERY carefully before letting this one go out – and they've said no more after I bring it back. It's been in use by various forces and is far from stock. The lights work, there's a computer, camera and loud speaker. Apparently (trying to get this confirmed) it was used by an Ottawa force who busted one of "America's Most Wanted" and had him in the back seat. The light reflective decals are actually matte black in daylight, so it's very bad-ass, stealth-bomber looking.
They've got a Dodge Magnum station wagon with those matte black decals around here. Whole car is black as night - I assume that one has the same effect.
Only for added sneakyness the local one has the light bar hidden inside the car.
There sure isn't much room in it - that computer takes up a good deal of the passenger seat. Horrible visibility with the a-pillar mounted spotlights, camera mounted on the windshield and the cage in back.
I just shook my head when I realized there were plastic automatic rifles locked to the cage...
Here's a vid shot by friend and fellow writer Peter Bleakney (showing silly guns)

sounds like a fun and frustrating week. You should do the same and see what your local cops think of it
Our local police must be flush with cash by comparison... they got rid of the Vics a few years ago, and they already have a lot of redesigned models in their fleet of Chargers. Chargers look so much better in cop garb than as civilian cars... seeing those large disc brakes peek out from behind the steelies hints at their capabilities.
They're driving me nuts around here. Seems every police agency is going with something different. Makes it darn hard to ID the headlight patterns at night coming up from the back.
Still many Crown Vics, but we've got Dodges, Mustangs, pickups, vans, Hondas (I kid you not, I've seen several), Jeeps, Hummers, etc.
I like the light patterns of the Crown Vic, I could ID them at something like a mile distance. That was convenient.
It has a cool idle feature which locks it into park, can't move it without the second key fob. Guess that's for donut shops?

It takes quite a bit of work to be considered impersonating. You have to actively convince someone you are a law enforcement officer. Driving a car with lights attached doesn't count.
You'd actually be surprised. I've driven fully marked police cars while plenty of people had no problem passing and even committing violations.
Like CG, I wave on the fly-by.
