I look at it this way. 10 years ago your racist uncle would send you emails with 10 "FW:" at the front of the subject line. Now he uses Facebook to do it. Same difference, IMO.

Yeah, but then I can't complain about something that I claim to hate yet still partake in!!!
Yeah, I've had to sever ties with a few people there. I've been trying for weeks, if not months, to get people to admit that BOTH sides have guilt for this mess. Not to apportion blame one way or the other, not even actually try to fix the problem(s); just to get people from both sides to admit we ALL have done poorly and we can ALL do better.
Nope. Mostly what I got was a never-ending round of "BUT THEY STARTED IT!" I finally vented a vicious rant about it last night and turned a few people out of my FB life.

Yup. I went to a friend's house-warming party on Sat. Being car-people, cars were parked everywhere. Nearly a week later, one guy has decided to go on a tirade about it. It's rather comical.
It can definitely be hard to filter out stuff on FB, but in some ways it is actually a good way to hear and try to understand opposing views. While I consider myself a pragmatist with generally left-leanings and most of my FB friends are similar (or even more left), I do have some friends towards the right. Through them and other venues, it has helped me to gain some understanding of how and why things have ended up where they are.
I've been spamming as much racecar-related stuff on Facebook, hoping that it will jumpstart the racecar part of my friends' brains and get my feed back to normality
I dropped FB back in 2009ish when they started instituting the policy of "we own everything that gets posted here and can use it for whatever we want including advertising, propaganda, and sharing with the NSA"
I now have a FAKE account I use EXCLUSIVELY for mobile game backups. All it's friends are gamebots, and all it shows on the rare occasion I do have to login is crap about Game of War or Marvel Puzzle Quest. Kinda sucks because that's where all the good info about local car things is, but dammit, you people have my phone number, call me.

I am a little butt hurt that little Tommy Suddard didn't accept my friend request though, I wonder if it's something I said...
wE'RE in the same boat. WE have family in 6 states outside our own(I guess that would be 7?). MAkes keeping upwith nephews and cousins a lot easier.

You realize that's like, every web site ever for the existence of time, right?

To a point. The way it was originally worded, whatever crap they passed back then I haven't been keeping up because I find it pointless, was enough to set me off.
Most places don't take ownership of your words, thoughts, pictures, and postings. There are still consents that are required to use it for advertising and such. Actually, that was another part of why I quit, when they started caching and keeping status updates you may have written out but didn't actually post, and selling that information to advertisers and everyone else.
I always thought the whole thing was pretty pointless though. I didn't talk to any of you idiots in highschool, why do I want to talk to you now, that you're older, dumber, and more annoying? At least myspace pages had background music.

Hope he doesn't have a gmail account or use waze or apple maps or buys things on amazon or basically the INTERNET and that BOX IN YOUR POCKET are tracking you 24/7.. give in now.. just give in. no one cares anymore.
I only use FB to keep up with friends I don't see that often and for family. Other than that, I might pop in once a month or two and post something random or non deep thinking. Otherwise, I stay off of it.

I do love a good meme. The way my schedule is now the only hobby I have time for now is trolling some people that take themselves too seriously. I have a bet with myself to see which one snaps first. I'm a bit bummed I didn't drive a cousin into an aneurysm Wednesday morning.
