I started it all! This is 1982 and everyone is questioning where the Sport Compact Scene went. Can you make any claim to this?
Road America - Corner 3 - Wearing "free" Uniroyal painters cap.
Aftermarket aluminum wheels, louvres, Phoenix Stahlflex 3011 tires, Hella H4's, along with blacked out headlight covers, Formula steering wheel, super loud radio with "power booster", tinted windows, windshield tint, blackout treatment, along with homemade front air dam.
What were you doing in 1982?

You got me. What car is that? Looks toyota-ish.
1982... riding one of these in the woods behind my house. I didn't get a license until '84
Sorry, doode. 1978, SoCal. Guy in my highschool had a Toyota Corolla with a wing, air dam, lowered, flares, blow through turbocharger. We all thought he was nuts.
Rocking my 69 Triumph GT6, wishing I could afford a brand new BMW E24, and finally making it to the SCCA Runoffs (Atlanta) for the first time. Oh, and flunking out of college.
I think the car's a Datsun 310? That would mean pete240z started the JNC movement as well..
I was also getting diapers changed. Fun times!
82?
Wrenching on my 55 Chev while tearing it up in my 77 Rabbit.
I wasn't even a gleam in my daddy's eye in 1982.

Ah...'82....it was a very good year. I was 14, more into our '57 Chevy than imports, but only because we had to sell my sisters Datsun 1200 due to rust.
Also got a Honda MB50 for use as a moped. Not legal, but it was fun.
Not even being thought about yet...I think my Mom was in middle school.

This. My illustrious entrance into the world happened in 86
I wasn't driving in '82...but my first car was.
I fixed 'er up with the spoiler and hood from an X-11 when I got it, which put me ahead of the rice scene in '89. I had the H.O. X-11 engine, but couldn't figure out what to do with all those wires to make it run. Hey, I was just a kid...

so I stretched the truth a bit.........my friend Steve started it with a 1975 Pinto but I didn't run into him until 1980 with his 1979 (or 1980) Ford "Rallye" Pinto 4-speed with lowered springs, all new sway bars, header, loud performance exhaust, and my favorite; the European Air horns (illegal in Illinois at the time) and the claim that his 2300cc engine was pretty much a "racing engine" since it was used in a racing series that we will see when we go to Road America.........
That got me started........Yeah, the car is a 1980 Datsun 310GX.
i wasn't even conceived yet...not for another 3 years. Screw you 1982.

Uhmmm.....we were doing that in SoCal in 75. Pintos and Courier trucks were the most popular to do it with but Corollas, Celicas and Datsuns were also done. Had a friend that did up a Dodge Colt like that, even had flares and spoilers. There were even a couple bugs done up like that, yeah thats right VW bugs that were very quick between stoplights but ran out of juice after that. I got my license in 74.

we need pictures for proof.........I ponied up my 80's picture.
82- My first and only new car. GM had a series of billboards with the new Z28 Camaro. I had a monster chubby for a new Z. I also had a cash value life insurance policy my parents had been sold when I was born, and enough credit rating that GMAC floated me the rest of the dough at- wait for it- 24% interest.
I came out of a 510 with twin SU's and a heavily shaved head, way too big a cam...When I got another winter car to keep the Camaro nice, it was a 72 142E with every suspension part you could still get from the Volvo Rsport catalogue.
82? I was 3. I had a Dukes of Hazard Big wheel.
82 I was 12.. and my father had just helped me pull the pan on my first car.. a 1968 Volkswagon Beetle, the first of several AC VWs that culiminated in a 1974 Superbeetle with a 2.0 Type four shoved under the rear decklid
In 1982 driving was still a few years off, but I was already studying the classics: Sports Car Graphic, Road & Track, Hot Rod, etc. I did get my first real BMX that year, though.
I was 14 and beating around in a 62 Chevy truck. No furrin cars for me until a bought a 81 Corolla wagon in 90 or so. It's been down hill ever since. I didn't start anything other than a bad and expensive car habit.
