since we talked about eveything else under the sun includeing lawn mowers to padel boats i thought i would talk about the airsoft event i went to yesterday. the event was put on by AAAtactcal airsoft at the russel milatiry museuem at 94 and 41 in lake county....yes that place with all the tanks and choppers...

the event was dealing with drug dealer being busted by the cops..it jsut turned into a basic shootout between two sides. but is was great though. the temps where in the 50's and sunny, the ground was not to bad, a little bit of mud and was easy to get around. there was somethng like 150 people i think showed up give or take. the firstbattle lasted about 2 hours back and forth between the drug deals and the cops. i myself and a freind where playing on the cops side as under cover dea agents. i did take some pics in the staging area and the are in photobucket.com page, used name ckosacranoid.

the batle took place using all the apc's and tanks as cover with the higgins boat being a strong point to what ever side had contaol. the fence line out by 94 also played a strong tactical cover since if you where out there and you had range you could cover the flank big time.

there was a couple of people taking more pics then i did, they was even a fake news crew running around coving the event as a real event that was taking place. it was fun. the first game the cops whre coming up from the south to the north and the dealer had the higggs boat as a strong point. a couple of high lights where i was helping a kid advance behind cover that we where picking and and carrying when 8 people charged us from a line of apc's, i stood up and hosed them all with my M14 that i was using. but a few miutes latter died from someone ese..sigh... any time i would die i would account for taking out sevral peoplethough. the way the field was laid out was lots of open cover and lots of fire lanes between the tanks, the place was not set up for airsofting though in mind. it played out for firepower and range was the order of the day. we started the day with a bag of 4000bbs, we did not have many left by 2pm when we called it quits. i have never fired that much when i go to events brfore i cause the range i use sucks and i die to quitckly to do much. i may fire 200 to 300 rounds at other events, this time i had 2 500rds hi-caps magizines and went though having to fill each one 2 or 3 times. my gun was a m-14 with scope that had good firepower and range for a gun out of the box, my sidearm was a co2pistol that i used once. my friend was using a ak-47 that sucked for range though and his gas .45 had more range then his main arm.

here is a couple of pics from the staging area before the 2nd game.

myself on the left and fireball on the right.

our host for the game dan....

two guys that work for him, even in custom for the one guy..but he was running thedrug side though with the cop outfit...

and a couple of random shots......

I think paintball is still better, but it can see the reluctance of getting their Sikorsky covered in orange goo.

Too bad you couldn't rig those big AA guns to fire some soft rounds. THAT would have been fun!

Do you go around and pick up the BB's afterward or do you litter?

My neighbor's kid leaves them in my yard. So far, I have not caught him actually firing the gun into my yard, it could be the wind carries them over, but I suspect he is trying to shoot the birds on my feeders.

I'd imagine it's like a driving range (golf). Someone drives around with a big vacuum cleaner...

I once owned a parts jeep that was a golf ball retrieval vehicle. It didn't have a straight panel on it.

I've never really seen an airsoft gun that could put some range on a shot. Paintballs seem to go farther, but they are, of course, more prone to just exploderate inside the gun instead than the plastic BBs from an Airsoft.

But man, I used to go through 300 paintballs in ONE GAME. That could be a 5 minute speedball skirmish!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun, and you probably used better equipment than I have really seen. Give us details of the equipment!!

A friend of mine's father was playing golf with a few friends back in the late 90s. His father told me he was there with like three other guys (a foursome, for you golf savvy GRMers) and that there was a brand new Mustang Cobra parked next to the first tee with a sign on it that read: "Hit a hole in one on this hole and win this car!".

Now, the hole was about 400 yards out (an average first hole). So a few of his group (including him) teed up and hit onto the fairway with no success. This left the biggest guy of the group up next. He was thinking it was possible for him to actually win this thing. So he tees up, takes a huge backswing, (can anybody see where this is going?), and launches one hard--right into the door of the Cobra. He was pretty embarrassed. The car had a nice dent.

Biodegradeable airsoft BBs are starting to hit the market. I don't know how popular they are or how much they cost, though.

I played airsoft a couple of times, but I never got into it as much as paintball. The only airsoft gun I ever used was a cheap plastic thing I ended up breaking when I landed on it going prone, plus my friends and I had trouble feeling hits. I've taken a couple of spills with my paintball gun and it's done more damage to me than I have to it! Plus with paintball, you never have trouble knowing when you're hit.

there's an old abandoned house and a barn on my friends property. SO much fun to play there, usually capture the flag, with guns.

Shotgun News (SGN) has had some articles on Airsoft. They look interesting. I thought it was pretty funny that the PoPo will buy accessories for their rifles at the Airsoft store because they're cheaper than the gun store.

Anyway, the SGN articles are good. He (the air gun author) will do a T&E on various Airsoft guns, give accuracy reports, etc. I've seen that M14 reviewed, or another M14 if not that one, and a "sniper" rifle that I think was a Winchester M70 but might have been a Rem 700. Some of those things get real expensive. Then you have to buy the "hop up" parts and hot rod the things or you will be left behind in performance. Metal gears, bigger batteries, more power.

awe where using the bio-dergrade type bbs. after a couple weeks they are ntohing left of them. they guns we use are everything from the cheap wal-mart pastic stuff to the $7000 miniguns that fire 6mm plastic bbs. the guns fire mostly under 400fps, anything over that up to 500fps is sniper duty. the rules at most feilds ar no shooting under 10 feet, anything under that you do the bang kill. sniper weapons over 400fps use no shooting under 100'. the guns range in price for good use from about $100 to $250 for good guns that you can use out of the box and dont have to do anything to them. the guns from china are hit and miss for price and qutily, but they are good from getting into the sport. the types of guns look just like the real thing at a glane and use clips and everything and can use real steel parts. there are 3 types of power sorce for the guns, green gas(or propane which is cheaper)- cons are its good for range and keeping up with the same fps over the ranges. the bad thing is thy sucke for shooting in the winter, and you have to really keep up and cleaning the gun. battery(rc car type stuff)- the most common and easy to fixe and get parts for, everyone uses it since it is the most common and the best to get, can be used for all weather and temps. the bad thing is when they break and keep the guts dry and working right. springers- cheap, easy and hard to bet for fixing. the bad thing is you have to cock the gun after every shot. they are mostly found in the cheap end stuff the kids run around with or the higer end sniper rifles. they do not need lots of fixing and very easy to fix. the range can suck for the cheap stuff but you can use them in any weather at all.

here is a couple of pages that i found to expain a little bit better then i can right now. the sport can be cheap or realy expenceave to say the least. when you gun guns you ened up after time more more of them and upgradeing other, all the cammo and other gear to wear adds up also.

My buddy has a nice gas powered pistol. I was pretty amazed. At 10' it hurts pretty good and can break the skin. I was also amazed that it looks so much like a real pistol and actually sounds like a small caliber (say 22) rifle. His wife has a no (real) guns policy in their house. I told him that other than the red tipped barrel you'd never know it wasn't a real gun. Obviously it's no replacement for a real weapon for self defense or anything, but it would likely scare someone, especially if you started popping them in the face at close range.

there are co2 guns out there. green gas or propane is just one of the more popular ways to power the gun. it gets more power somehow. you would have to look around online for more info on way green gas is better in someways. the green gas is very expance to buy for some reason and a lot of people have swaitched to propane from the store becuase its the same thing and a hell of a lot cheaper.

i have a pistol, if you check the pitute of me the sidearm in my holster is a co2 pistol that uses a small cartridge. i have seen some guns set up to use a co2 tank like you would in paintball, they are just not as common. aeg or automatic electric gun are by far the most common.

hey clay, that pisol that your beddy has, does it use the metal bbs or plasitc? any gun under 10 feet is going to hurt no matter what you are shooting.
