I found the A/C in my 350Z and RX-8 to have been barely adequate at best. That is definitely one area I've found American cars to do far better.

You're not kidding. Also drive a Sonic. The A/C can freeze me out and I like it COLD.
I will say...the greatest climate control I've ever seen was in my $500 '83 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. It had low pressure when we got it, so my dad and I just put a can of r134 on top of the R12 that was already in there, to see if it would work. It blew 36 degrees out of the vents. Also had a heater that could roast you out of the car in January. And thanks to a broken blend door, THOSE WERE THE ONLY TWO SETTINGS IT HAD - 8th ring of hell, 9th ring of hell, or off.
Man, I miss that thing.
