So I live in an undeveloped subdivision. Around my subdivision are a couple ponds that were made during the development and about a year or so ago I saw some fish jumping in the one right behind my house. The last couple of weeks I have been trying to see if I could catch something (I've only gone out there two or three times).
I told my fishing buddies they should come out and try to see if we could catch something. One said sure but has been busy, but the other told me that there is no way there are any fish in that pond.
Well after today I can tell him different.

You found a broken image link?
broken image links are not so hard to catch.. looks small though, might have to throw it back
I forgot it's not good to try to upload photos straight from my phone.
What kind of fish is that and what's he been eating all his life?
Where im from we called that little thing bait. :)
You can SO tell thats photoshopped.

Fish are good. Should help keep the mosquito population under control... IMHO, I wouldn't tell your buddies lest you take too many.
so these ponds have no access to running water? Makes you wonder how they got there

I've seen people fishing in retention ponds. I don't know if the DNR stock it or what...

That's a little bass. They can live in less than optimal water. As far as how they got there, "Nature finds a way".

The fish eggs were possibly deposited by birds.
In reply to Osterkraut:
Meh, haven't been able to find my aviators in two weeks, so I had to wear the back ups.
undeveloped subdivision sounds like prime minibiking territory to me.
That's a nice looking striped bass you caught! I had those in the pond of my old house. But they were smaller than that. And I agree with that place being prime minibiking territory.

Looks like a largemouth to me.
Bass! You know fish can be caught up in rain storms, sucked into storm systems, and and rained down into other bodies of water. In the Amazon Rain Forest there are small fish that live in the water pools in the tops of trees! Or maybe the eggs/baby fish were in the water that got pumped into the pond?
Apparently, you are also not full of fish!

I don't think the large mouth have the stripe going down their sides.

Yes they do. Striped bass are much more... well, striped. There are more stripes and they are more defined. Also, stripers are usually found more often around coastal areas.
That is a Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides) , the largest member of the sunfish family.
