I just watched my 2004 challenge car get trailered from my house. The last time I autocrossed it I blew the turbo. That was (ashamed voice) 6 years ago. Kids came along, time and money didn't. The new owner says he's planning on having it on the road by summer and I can have visitation rights.
Anyway, that was the first car I built for myself (I built a Jeep for someone else before that) so there was some attachment to it. The money from that the the mini will fund my next project, but I think I'll always be sad.
same thing happened when my mini went away to a friend. I killed the motor, then life got in the way of rebuilding.

That has to feel weird. I'm still jealous though. I've only been to the challenge as a spectator.
You've competed, met a lot of people, had some fun.
I almost know how you feel, my heart was heavy when I gave away the Celi. I never got to drive her though, so I imagine your sad is bigger than mine was.
Hang tough, at least you get visitation! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/cool-18.png)

Same thing for me with my ZX2SR.

I've been meaning to sell the car for a while, just didn't try because I didn't want to. A guy from work (Russ, remember him?) has been bugging me. So, it was time.

My van practically laughed at me when I sold it. That was almost six years ago and I bet its still going strong and runs and looks better than the truck that replaced it. I'm still sad.
The e30 and the truck, however... I'll dance a happy dance when I see those tail lights for the last time. I'll probably feel a twinge when I see others on the road, but it will pass... and my memories of pain will remind me of why they're gone. Some day...

felt the same when my DD Suby went away ... it was old (95) and used hard ( 230k) and beat to hell ( dozens of dents and dings + hail damage, bumpers hanging on with zip ties, etc .... ) but it served me well for 6 yrs and I know the new owners won't do the required maint. and it'll die in a few yrs
+ the F150 I replaced it with only gets 15mpg vs the Suby at 24
I'm already feeling bad that I will sell my XJ cherokee, but the wrangler will keepe company!

Sounds like it went to a good home at least.

I'm saddened that nobody offered to hold me. I'm also very relieved.
Woke up with seller's remorse. I actually thought, "I bet if I offer him double, he'd sell it back to me."
I'll be ok.

Dude. Your avatar is shaped like, well, you know. Very few of us are interested in holding that.

We're only interested in holding our own.
I went through the same emotions when I sold my old 240. Had it for 7 years, did tons of work to it, did hundreds of autocrosses in it and general hooning, took it to the Gap. Just had a friggin blast in that car. But it was time for something new, so it went to a new home. Luckily, it went to another local autocrosser so I get to see/drive it on a fairly regular basis. That sure helps with the sellers remorse ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)
I felt the same way when my Alfa went away.
The guy who bought my Escort did a burn out off my driveway. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/unhappy-18.png)

Has anyone besides spoolpigeon seen a beloved car driving around after they sold it? I saw one of my Cherokees driving around 2 years later (and I sold it with 256K on it!!). That was nice.
Saw my P71 about 2 years after I sold it. I about cried.
I saw my old 944 a few years after I sold it...They had trashed it. The leather interior was in shreds, dents in 3/4s of the body panels, broken tail light and the paint was extremely faded. I cried...then I remembered I still had a key for it in my truck.

I actually saw my old '92 SHO a couple of months ago. It was parked at a dorm at the University of Louisville. When I sold the car six or seven years ago, it had 180k+ miles on it and had been autocrossed for a full season. I couldn't believe it was still alive.

I was sad to see my '95 Neon ACR go to its new owner. Two things cheered me up: A) he was going to make it into a hillclimber, and B) the cloud of blue smoke it puffed out as he drove it away.
He got a good deal on that car. I undercharged him by about $400.
I have two opposing emotions on this.
First, I sold our LeMons car this past summer. it went to our team mate. I was VERY happy to see it go! I hate SBC's now.
Second, I just finished swapping my TII RX7's drivetrain into a rust free GXL (automatic) shell. The TII was the first car I "built". It was a typical case of "went too far". The roll cage, rusty shell, and TOOOO stiff suspension meant that I never drove the car.
Now I have stripped all of the good parts off of the car (either for my fun car or the new LeMons RX7).
Every time I steal something else off the car or move it around the shop, I get a bit depressed. I know soon enough it will go to the great junkyard in the sky.....
I will be the one sending it there. berkeley.
I feel your pain. I owned my 1972 MGB for 11 years, then sold it to a young couple who pretty obviously had no idea of what they were buying, I considered backing out a couple of times.
A buddy then said he saw it behind a dealership in the 'cheap car' lot (don't see those much any more). It disappeared from sight for a few years, then I pulled up next to it at a light. What a mess. Top in tatters, filthy, rot holes in the fender doglegs.
I later saw it at a small Brit repair shop, it really looked bad. But on the plus side, the high compression 1800 I built with sidedraft Weber and mild cam still sounded GREAT.
SWMBO sold her rough but reliable Bravada to a financially struggling neighbor for $400 (surely less than scrap on something as heavy as an SUV) so that the girl could keep a job. A month later, the woman got in a fight with her girlfriend, drank a 12-pack of Natty Light, and went for a drive.
Y'all probably already figured out how that ended. At least nobody died.
