It's official. I once again have a student ID in my pocket.
With several racing teams in town, the local tech school started a Motorsports program. I couldn't resist. I enrolled in the degree program for motorsports, which includes engine building, transmissions, fabrication, chassis, and motorsports business management.
Fun side note- when I was applying at the admissions office, the 2 young ladies helping me were getting a kick out of my college transcript. There isn't a whole lot of substance to it. I explained those were the "peace, love, and granola" days of education, which led to them kidding me about my age.
After the test, my scores were being reviewed by the middle aged office manager. She told me my scores were VERY good, among the best she'd seen. The 2 young ladies were looking over her shoulder in a kind of giddy appreciation. I did my best rapper styled "horns" hand gesture and yelled across the office to the 2 young ladies, "THAT is the wisdom of age!". The office full of students got a kick out of it.
I wonder if I can get both a student discount and a senior discount at the movies...
Young people are never up this early on a Sunday.

Very true, from one old fart to another.
What is considered young?
By virtue of getting to work so early during the week, "sleeping in" on the weekends means I'm usually up by 6-6:15.
Congrats on going back to school! Especially for something as cool as motorsports. I'm very jealous, good luck!
Your my boy blue !! I mean SVreX!!

Cool to hear Paul! There were definitely no motorsports programs around when I enrolled in my post-secondary. That sounds like it could be really interesting.
In reply to MrJoshua:
I must be old, then.
You should try really hard to bring the "peace, love, granola" feel back to school. Be the wise man that knows everything.
No kidding - what teams are based in Albany?

It's actually Americus.
The big boys are Star Racing. They are giants in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racing.
Beaver Racing Engines is a pretty well known race engine builder.
Lance Styck of Custom Performance is a player in Outlaw class.
ARC Racing is a supplier for Junior Dragster and Karting.
There are also 8 or 10 small teams (circle track, dirt track, etc), and several racing memorabilia companies.
They are building a $12 million dollar motorsports park which will have both drag racing and road racing. It's gonna be a happening place.

Actually, the first time I said it I worded it differently...
I told my wife we could go out, and I could get a student discount while my date got a senior discount...
She slapped me.
Cool deal going back to school. I hope it all works out.

That's awesome! I'd say good luck, but that has nothing to do with it. That's a great lesson for your kids to see as well.
AMERICUS?.
Lord when I had a real job I used to spend quite a few nights a year in a turd of a motel in Americus. Only claim to fame that had was pictures of marice 1 (the presidential helicopter) on the walls with autographs. I guess the flight crew stayed they when JC was in Plains.
Now the Best Western Merry Acres in Albany was the place to stay. Huge fluffy pillows and huge fluffy towels.
I too have thought of going back to some sort of automotive class in a tech schjool or vocational school .
Sounds like fun. I wonder where Americus got the money for the motorsports park. That's a lot of money being invested.

It's not taxpayer money. It's private enterprise, and sponsorship dollars.

Things have changed.
Americus is becoming a model of a successful small town, and Albany is a basket case.
Oh, and Merry Acres is no longer the place to stay.

I think you will enjoy it. After early retirement I enrolled in the local trade school in the Auto Tech program. I learned a lot about cars. Learned how to weld. Got to use a lot of expensive equipment and crewed on their Drag Team for a couple of seasons. Overall a great experience, worked on some killer engines.

OK, I just "soda-ized" my keyboard and really did laugh out loud. Good on you for having the inquisitive mind to find out about the course in the first place. It should be fun.
Updates would be appreciated.
