The real question is...

How often does the catalyst regenerate in a race application?

My son and I saw them race at Mid Ohio earlier this summer. I have seen plenty of the VW 3 wheel dance but at the end of the esses the inside rear wheel on most of the cars was like 3 feet off the ground. Quite a few of those guys ended up in the grass during the practice session.

One of Pepe Pombo's (SEDIV SCCA legend) sons races one of those things.

Mark & Mathew were full-tilt fast in Spec Miata, but I haven't talked to Pepe in awhile. I don't know how Mark got the TDI ride..

I would have thought they made more power than that. StealthTDI.com gets about that much with a chipped 88 TDI Jetta.

All the new clean diesel stuff has choked the power back down a bit.

Best of all, they get 26 mpg while out on track during a race .

I've met Theresa Condict before, who is a racer in the TDI Cup series, as well as her father. They autocross an Evo VIII in my SCCA region and both are wickedly fast drivers. Nice people too.

I got invited to race in the TDI Cup:

However, the entry free was $45,000. I wish I knew how she paid for it (Sponsorships? Dad has deep pockets?).

You'll need to log in to post.
