My SO has had a Kia for quite some time and was looking at new cars. First choice was a Genesis (sp) or a Mustang. She ruled out both because she is a night shift nurse and lives in a rural area that sometimes in winter the roads are not the best. So last night she said she had order an Accord. I asked why she changed her mind as above. Her answer: She felt comfortable in the car and it fit her.

I think her reasons are absolutely valid. Why would anyone buy a car that they didn't feel comfortable in? Coincidentally, my wife drives a 2013 Accord V6, and it drives very, very nicely.

I've driven Honda's since 1976 (9 in all) and in the last 3 or 4 I haven't felt comfortable .. the arms out (F1 style) wasn't comfortable … finally I've bought something else .. driving position much better

Lot to be said for a car fitting correctly, for instance I've busted my ass to make the race car fit. Look at it this way: at least she didn't buy a Fiat (worst initial build quality in the country).

I'm very happy to hear that, but from a different point of view than the average consumer. When Chrysler was retooling the Toluca, Mexico facility to transition from PT Cruisers to the Fiat 500 model a few years back, we submitted a bid on supplying the body assembly inspection machines. I was involved in the project with the company I worked for at the time, and put a lot of time and effort into developing the proposal and contributing to the sales process, not to mention a trip to Toluca just as the swine flu epidemic was breaking out in Mexico City in 2009. But in their infinite wisdom the Chrysler process engineers decided to purchase "brand Z," our competitor, even though throughout Europe Fiat had been using our inspection machines for a number of years and had a successful, proven inspection process already in place for the Cinquecento. So even though I'm retired now and shouldn't give a rat's azz about all that ancient history, it makes me feel good to hear they've had quality problems. Yes!

Sorry, I'm a bit off topic. Maybe this was better suited for the Minor Rant thread. But it struck a nerve when I read it, so I had to comment. Now back to the topic.

And I don't really give a E36 M3 about my shoes as long as they fit and don't have holes in them. Most chicks probably don't understand that.

The car fitting me is why I have a Miata instead of an S2000 I had that car for a few years before I realized it did not have a tilt steering wheel.

Yes, I told her that fit and comfort are very important. In fact I have told people that. sit in it, see how it feels.

I'm not a Honda fan but hey, it's her car.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Comfort and ergonomics are high priorities for me when I look for a commuter car too, and an Accord should do OK on icy roads.

Amen to that! I've tried to steer my wife's new car purchases in the past. Let's just say that didn't go too well!

what's really maddening is when you're asked for you recommendations and opinions on what they've decided (ignoring your recommendations) … and you not only aren't you thanked, you're just plain ignored

my response for the last few yrs has been … whatever makes you happy … and when they try to make me give more than that .. I remind them that they're just going to ignore what I say, so why bother …

don't understand why they all call me an shiny happy person
